Spokane Hauser SST Meeting Oct 16th 2012

SST Pasco AFHT Event

Steve Snyder gave a synopsis abot the Pasco BBQ the SST threw in the Hotel. Overall, all involved felt it was a success. They felt the lines of communication broadened, and our message regarding the SST was heard due to the fact of the time we were able to spend with the crews.

Yard Audits

Rob H and Gabe performed yard audits after the division meeting. Things are looking better. SIRP’s are getting closed out. We need to remind the crew base to use J hooks on the switches, and close covers on electric switches at Hauser. Discussion regarding MRL crews being briefed during marathons about some of our terminal policies. Switch broom stands on the EE of Hauser yard still need to be placed before in climate weather

SIRP/TCM’s

Gabe stated that several TCM’s as well as a couple form C’s need to be updated. One SIRP turned in at Yardley regarding walkways, the item has already been resolved. Steve M noticed fewer SIRP’s being turned in over recent months and would remind everyone that the SIRP process is still there and working. Discussion of PPE machines that was SIRP’d. A new process for PPE equipment at Hauser is being implemented utilizing the small conference room by Roland’s office. The SIRP regarding the van crossing at EE of Hauser yard has been closed. Will reopen with plans for a tunnel to be installed. Gabe to follow up on remainder of open SIRP’s.

General Discussion

Steve M touched on the division meeting and the signage for the 10 mph HER M2 M2 at Parkwater. Steve has made up a mock sign and will get with Calvin Farley about installation. Rob H discussed that Op’s Testing process, and whether or not communication and feedback by officials is still happening. Discussion ensued. Shoving movements should be addressed at marathons. Roland challenged the SST to try to change or clean up the rule. Doug talked about efficiency vs. safety in some rules. Steve S. brought up the rule and a dissection and discussion ensued. Doug called for the formation of a group to try to rewrite and simplify the rule. SST will poll crews about what changes could be made during the marathons. Winter boot vouchers will be rolled out during marathons. Warren stated Mechanical Dept. achieved 1 year injury free and celebrated with a feed. Mechanical is also hiring 3 new people.

Lee Johnson discussed that SHARP has done over 1200 observations and the team is looking into modifying the data collection so a more accurate base can be gathered. A new full time Observer/Mentor position is going to be opened. Next month a new schedule for observers will be rolled out. A discussion started about Brothers Keeper and approaching others. Doug Dawley would like to remind crews that signal maintainers should not be flagging crews over crossings if a crossing malfunction has been issued by a dispatcher. Signal Dept is ramping up for winter preparedness please keep an eye on switch heaters and report to dispatcher if seen to be not working .

Superintendent’s Report

Roland did not have current Division numbers but overall the northwest is down 12-15% on injuries. There are 5 Superintendent areas of responsibility that have more injuries YTD than we do. We have 10 YTD this year and 10 YTD last year. Roland noticed a complete turnover from last year with 2 reportable and 8 non-reportable vs 8 rep and 2 non-rep this year. Discussion ensued.

Old Business

Steve M opened a discussion about changing up the safety feed. Scott will look into options. Discussion about Roland’s Safety Rock. Roland is moving forward on it. Discussion on swag for employee of the month. Steve S talked about misaligned signals on the Lakeside Sub discussion ensued. Pasco off duty crews are not being allowed to ride in PPI vans to the store when restaurant is closed. Steve S will attend Pasco’s next Safety meeting. Steve S also discussed Lakeside cheat sheet.

New Business

Rob H presented a new proposal on deadheading crews on Amtrak to and from Whitefish. Discussion ensued and Roland to look over proposal.
