Man Up Coordinator – Application Pack
Summary
Safe Ground is looking for a dynamic individual to support and quality assure delivery of the Man Up programme across a network of youth justice sites in South and West Yorkshire. The post holder will have excellent facilitation and project management skills, and a passion for creative engagement with young people. The post is funded for 12 months in the first instance and line-managed by Safe Ground’s programmes team in London. The post is based in Wakefield (West Parade), with frequent regional travel, and is offered as 2 days per week at £26,500 salary + 3% pension (pro rata).

Over the past decade, our pioneering family relationship programmes, Family Man and Fathers Inside, have been delivered in over 40 prisons across England and Wales. More recently, our Man Up programme has been developed and delivered in adult prisons, young offender institutions and schools. Safe Ground is considered a leader in the field of arts-based, relationships education, recognised in numerous academic reports and rigorous evaluations.

Our partnership with South & West Yorkshire Resettlement Consortium
Resettlement Consortia were set up by the YJB and the MoJ to improve the resettlement opportunities for young people, in order to build on progress made whilst in custody. To achieve this, each consortia aims to build successful local and regional strategic partnerships to tackle barriers to resettlement.
Safe Ground have been commissioned as part of the South and West Yorkshire Resettlement Consortium to help address the issues that impact on effective resettlement which are related to young people’s personal sense of identity, their ability to maintain appropriate relationships, and their ability to positively solve problems they encounter upon release from custody. This post involves the training of professionals to deliver Safe Ground’s pioneering masculinities programme, Man Up. The post is funded by the South and West Yorkshire Consortium for 12 months in the first instance.
Post requirements
This role combines operational problem solving and project management, with hands-on training and group facilitation opportunities. The successful candidate will therefore:
- be committed to Safe Ground’s mission statement
- have experience of facilitating groupwork (ideally arts-based)
- have experience of building relationships; networking; and coordinating complex partnerships
- have experience of helping teams effectively problem solve
- have excellent organisational skills, including the ability to work to tight deadlines and to prioritise conflicting tasks
- be knowledgeable about criminal justice and/or education policy
- be willing to work as part of a team delivering excellence
- be a reflective practitioner with experience of managing complex group dynamics and developing people
- have a full driving license and be able to travel across the South and West Yorkshire region

JOB DESCRIPTION:
(a)Job title:Man Up Coordinator (S&W Yorkshire Consortium)
(b)Responsible to:Programmes Development Director (PDD)
(c) Length of contract:12 months fixed term contract with the possibility of extension.
(d) Salary:£26,500 per annum (pro rata)
(e) Hours:Part time, 14 hours per week. The nature of the role requires regular working outside of 9-5.
(f) Location:Based in Wakefield Youth Offending Service, West Parade, although the role will involve extensive travel to programmedelivery sites across south and west Yorkshire, and occasional travel to London.
Key Responsibilities:
Training and delivery
- organise and deliver high quality training and quality assurance support to youth offending service (YOS), prison service, education, voluntary sector, and Local Authority staff in order to enable delivery of the Man Up programme in designated settings
- identify opportunities for bespoke and/or or on-site training within relevant YOS, prisons, and other organisations as appropriate
- contribute to and maintain highest quality standards of programme delivery
- where appropriate, co-deliver Safe Ground programmes in designated YOS and/or prison settings
Day-to-day programme coordination
- responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality assurance of all Man Up programmes across delivery sites
- work with local delivery teams across delivery sites to identify opportunities to tailor programme content to the particular needs of their cohort
- support delivery teams to deliver these adaptations by providing direction, advice and guidance
- meet performance targets and objectives as agreed with PDD
- develop strategic relationships with each delivery site, and with education providers, voluntary organisations and local authorities as appropriate
- support the management and delivery teams at each allocated delivery site. This will include regular face to face meetings and virtual contact as appropriate
- coordinate and chair operational meetings with the Senior Management Team and operational staff at each delivery site to ensure the programmes are delivered effectively and strategically and that problems are solved quickly when they arise
- coordinate and ensure the timely delivery of programme resources
- work with individual delivery sites and with PDD to identify obstacles that may prevent future programme delivery, and present alternative solutions
Development
- contribute to revisions of Safe Ground programmes and associated materials as appropriate and coordinate the implementation of any such revisions across the Safe Ground network
- feedback any local needs identified to Safe Ground, and carefully document any adaptations made to the Man Up programme during programme delivery across designated delivery sites
- coordinate and liaise with Executive Director, PDD and Programmes Team to seek and maximise opportunities for development and evolution of programmes in accordance with organisational strategic plan
Reporting and Data Management
- create and innovate data collection and monitoring methods wherever appropriate or valuable, making proposals to Safe Ground team/line manager
- contribute towards the Safe Ground Network programme database, ensuring the contacts and information for each of the allocated delivery sites is correct
- contribute to quarterly Network Newsletters, Safe Ground website and other social media sites as appropriate and liaise with the Programmes Team to ensure clear communication across the organisation
- ensure allocated delivery sites return completed programme evaluation forms in a timely manner and support all data collection processes
- support the management team of Safe Ground in implementing any agreed programme evaluations and undertake additional tasks to support its completion
Contribution to the Programmes Team
- support the induction and training of any new Programmes Team staff
- submit monthly progress reports to Safe Ground highlighting opportunities and areas of concern
- contribute to relevant ‘Regional Forums’ and develop new strategic relationships
- assist in the coordination and delivery of annual Policy Symposium
- keep abreast of political and social policy and developments in the sector in order to respond accordingly to the Safe Ground’s organisational needs and support programme development
Contribution to Safe Ground
- input into organisational strategy
- feedback and identify opportunities for course development, collaboration and partnerships with external or internal agencies
- support PDD in identifying opportunities for generating income
- submit summary for Annual Report and contribute to Trustee’s Report when required
- contribute relevant information for Expressions of Interest and Funding bids as requested by Executive Director, PDD and BDD
- participate in full induction, training opportunities and personal development opportunities including internal and external events and courses, Away Days and team meetings
- represent Safe Ground at external events and give presentations when required
Policies and Procedures
- comply with and promote Safe Ground’s guidelines and procedures, particularly those relating to Health and Safety, Data Protection, Child Protection, Quality, legal stipulations, Equality and Diversity and general duty of care
- adhere to YOS and HM Prison Service requirements including health and safety and security and child protection when in any YOS, HMP or private prison settings or establishments
- to maintain confidentiality and to adhere to other Safe Ground’s codes of practice
- contribute to the development of policies and practice within Safe Ground and to the knowledge and practice of other staff
- uphold, safe guard and promote the charity’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, integrity, environment, people and the community
- take responsibility for personal development, identifying personal training needs and participating in regular supervision and appraisal by Line Manager and coaching support offered by trustees
- participate in Safe Ground staff meetings and to carry out other tasks associated with the organisation as reasonably required by the PDD
- undertake a satisfactory enhanced DBS Check and HMP Clearance check during induction
