Concert Band

Concert Band will rehearse throughout the year when we are not rehearsing for other bands. The dress for concerts will be; Marching uniforms, black socks, black shoes. This ensemble will rehearse daily during first period.
Small Group Contest
Small group contest is not mandatory, but is something everyone should be involved in. A solo or group ensemble gives you the chance to show your talent, and work on your stage presence.
4.
Marching Band
Marching Band consists of a camp, the Sweet Corn Festival Parade, Competitions, Pre-game, and Half time performances of the home football games. The season begins at the camp and runs through the Monday after the last home football game. Game day performances consist of a pre-game “Troop the Stands” march, and a half time show. You will be dismissed after the half time performance. Everyone will march except for the Varsity football players and cheer leaders. The rehearsals are set in the fall. You receive 2 letter points for each event you participate in.
Jazz Band
The Jazz Band will rehearse before or after school on a regular basis. Members will placed either by audition or by the director. You have to be in Concert Band to be a member of the Jazz Band. We will perform at one of the Concert Band concerts, and at selected competitions. You receive 10 letter points for Jazz Band. There is a 1 point deduction for missing a rehearsal or performance, and 1/2 point deduction for tardiness.
Pep Band
During basketball season all members are required to participate in half of the Pep Band performances. This group will perform at all the home varsity boys/girls basketball games. The music will consist of pop tunes. This is a great way to have fun performing pop tunes. You also receive 2 letter point for each performance.
CHAIR PLACEMENT
Band auditions for chair placement will be held at the beginning of the year.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CHAIR PLACEMENT
Wind Players will be asked to perform as many scales as they know memorized, and 1 selection of sight reading music. They will be judged on accuracy, and tempo.
Percussionists must demonstrate any 5 of the 40 rudiments, and 8 scales on mallet instrument.
CHALLENGES
A student may challenge another student for a higher chair placement. This can be done only once every two weeks. Challenges can only be issued up to 2 weeks before a scheduled concert. The requirements are the same as band auditions.
5.
Uniforms
Our uniforms are made of GOLD, treat them as such!! Whenever in the “public eye,” you are expected to be in full dress wearing all uniform parts correctly. Any exception to this rule, on specific occasions, will be announced by the director.
Do not let anyone else wear any part of your band uniform. You are responsible for the uniform checked out to you. If you do not turn in the uniform assigned to you, you will be charged for the replacement of that uniform. You are also responsible to pay for any damages to the uniform assigned to you.
The total cost of each uniform is nearly $450.00 - so please handle
it with extreme care. HANG IT UP PROPERLY following each performance, storing it in the suit bag.
School Owned Instrument Rental
All students playing a School owned instrument must pay the rental fee. It is due at the end of the previous school year. The instruments are sent in to the music store prior being rented. Minor use damages will be fixed by the school. The student is responsible to pay for any major damages.
Trip Information
The guidelines used for band/choir trips are defined in the code of
conduct in the school handbook. There are NO exceptions. In the case
of any infraction of the rules, the student’s parents will be notified, and the student will be either sent home at his/her expense with a chaperone, or stay at the hotel with a chaperone.
Band Awards
Band students from all grades will be recognized for outstanding
individual and group achievements during the Fine Arts Awards Night.
Eligibility Policy
Look at the student activity handbook for the eligibility policy. The performances effected by the eligibility policy are; marching band performances, pep band performances, jazz band performances, honor bands, trips, and All-State. If performance is missed, the student will be in charge of making arrangements to either go and not perform, or make up the time missed.
