RECORDING USING THE EDIROL R-09
Before You Begin
Check the bag contents for
§ EDIROL R-09
§ USB cable
§ Microphone + cable
§ Headphones
The SD memory card (2 GB) is ALWAYS kept in the Edirol Don’t remove it !!!!
The re-useable batteries last a long time and are kept charged up by the staff, but if you are not SURE they are charged up then take a couple of spare AA batteries. (Better safe than sorry)
A power pack is available if you need it for a long recording session. After use TAKE BATTERIES OUT !!!
Check that:
Batteries are charged up – there is a display in bottom right of screen AND a Battery Low sign will come up when you try to record
HOLD switch is set to OFF (it’s on lower right side of unit & acts as locking device on all controls when it’s on)
AGC (on back of unit) is OFF
LOW CUT (on back of unit) is ON - this cuts out bass tones
MIC GAIN (on back of unit) is on HIGH - unless you are in a VERY noisy environment
Power Sources
Batteries

§ Slide the Bottom cover as above
§ Slide small Lock and hold it there while sliding the cover fully.
§ Insert 2 AA batteries
§ Close the cover and gently push back.
A power pack is also available from the Production Office to use for longer recording sessions
Setting Up To Record
CONNECT HEADPHONES - input is on top right side.
ALWAYS,ALWAYS, ALWAYS USE HEADPHONES TO MONITOR YOUR RECORDING
CONNECT MIC - Mic input on top of unit ( Always use an external mic unless you want surround sound, then disconnect external and use the built in stereo mics)
POWER ON - holding down the switch on top left side of unit, turns power ON and OFF.
DELETE any audio on the SD memory card
§ Press and hold the FINDER/MENU button
§ Scroll down with arrow button to :7 SD Card and press REC button
§ Scroll down to :2 Format and press REC
§ Select YES using right arrow and press REC
§ Screen shows “no song” showing that SD memory card is now blank
§ Press FINDER/MENU button twice to go to starting position
Recording
Test record levels first
§ Press REC button – it starts flashing in STANDBY MODE
§ Speak into mic and adjust INPUT LEVEL on left side of unit. The range is from 0 to 30, set them at about 22 ( in the middle) with peak light flashing but NOT steady
§ LISTEN to what you hear through headphones and move to a different site if needed – headphone controls are on right side of unit
§ Press REC again to record
§ STOP using button under REC button (Each STOP / START creates and numbers a new wav file)
After Recording
CHECK the recording before you leave (Press PLAY and use arrow buttons to choose tracks)
Turn OFF Edirol (press & hold power switch )
Disconnect mic and headphones
Put everything in BAG. After use TAKE BATTERIES OUT !!!
Downloading Files Onto CoolEdit
DO NOT DOWNLOAD IN STUDIOS!!!
- this will mess up computer settings. Use the other computer workstations
Download to a PC
NB You must have batteries in the Edirol to download.
§ Slide the bottom cover to first position to open.
§ The cover will stop when the USB terminal and SD memory card slot can be seen
§ Connect Edirol to the PC with USB cable. (located in front pocket of bag )
§ Turn Edirol ON
§ Open My Computer
§ Double click on the removable disk
§ Copy the files to your computer folder.
§ Open within Cool Edit
Recorded File is 44100Hz (44.1 KHz ) Stereo and must be converted
Select EDIT menu in Cool Edit then Convert Sample type/change to 22050/MONO/ OK and SAVE AS
To disconnect:
§ Double click on GREEN ARROW icon at the bottom right corner of the computer screen
§ Click on STOP and OK
§ USB Device can be now be safely removed from the system
§ Disconnect USB cord & close cover.
§ Turn Edirol OFF
