Causeway U3A Summer Newsletter August 2017
Welcome to our Summer Newsletter.
I hope you have enjoyed your summerbreak and I know that many of you were looking forward to the Irish Open Golf at Portstewart. The weather was mixed but hopefully some of the 92,000 visitors got a chance to appreciate this most beautiful part of the world.
Included with this Newsletter is your annual handbook. Within the handbook is a summary of the various activities that are offered for your enjoyment and as usual we expect a big demand. We have therefore added severalnew activities this year: short mat bowling, cinema club, reading poetry, German, fun with drums and trivia table quiz. Please also note that some of the other regular activities have changes of venues from last year. However, the most important bit of information regarding venues is that from this September we will be holding our regular monthly meetings at The Lodge Hotel in Coleraine.
The first of these meetings isa dedicated Activities Fair on 7th September where you will have the chance to see some demonstrations of current and new activities. You can also sign up to activities or learn more about ones that you have an interest in. Remember this is not school so don’t be shy as there are no tests or exams at the end of any activity! We are also combining this fair with an open invitation for prospective new members so do ask family or friends who are interested in learning more to come along. We will have a couple of breakout sessions in a separate room to present our U3A and its ethos as well as a dedicated sign up area for those interested in joining up.
You will also see that we have a varied and interesting speakers’ programme, which I know that many of you have enjoyed over the recent past. Hopefully we will get off to a great start in October with Baroness Blood describing her remarkable journey in life from the streets of Belfast to The House Of Lords. Please attend if you can as a lot of effort goes in to obtaining a commitment from these busy people. For those members who wish to stay after the meeting, we have organised a discounted buffet lunch with the hotel and tea and coffee will be served as usual before the start of the meeting.
Based on the very positive feedback we have rebooked the Royal Court Hotel this year for our Christmas lunch. We had a super turn out last year with a variety of entertainment, some of which would have benefitted with subtitles for our non-local members! We anticipate a high demand, as space is limited, please book early to ensure a seat.
Our new committee was elected at the recent AGM. The work that goes on behind the scenes by our committee and various members is significant in making Causeway U3A what it is, a vibrant and important local organisation enabling you to ‘Learn, Laugh and Live’Please always remember that Members lead or facilitate activities for the benefit of all members.
Don’t forget to bring your membership card along to the start of any activities that you wish to participate in to comply with our insurance obligations, and
Please adviseviathis address if you have a new or changed e-mail address so that we can update our system and ensure regular communications:
I am looking forward to meeting up with many of you during the year ahead,
