POSITION SUMMARY
With minimum direction from the Director, Center for Clinical Knowledge Management (CCKM), and leaders from matrixed analytic departments (including BPAD, DABI, HIMC, etc.), the Population Health-Bundled Care Data Analyst is responsible for providing ad-hoc and ongoing reporting and analysis services in support of programmatic initiatives aimed at improving the quality and outcomes of care provided to populations of UW Health through our bundled care program. The Population Health-Bundled Care Data Analyst is charged with providing analytic services to staff members across multiple departments, and to other UW Health faculty and staff involved in projects assigned to the Center for Clinical Knowledge Management. The work of this Analyst supports key strategic initiatives including the Population Health Program, the UW Health ACO, and other programs supported by CCKM. This position reports to the Director, CCKM, and has matrix responsibility to BPAD and other departments as necessary to accomplish the analytical work of the Bundled Care Program. This reporting relationship facilitates the work of the Population Health-Bundled Care Data Analyst, allowing the incumbent to focus on the needs of the Bundled Care Program, while accessing the appropriate analytical resources and guidance of other key departments within the UW Health analytic community hat are aligned with overall UW Health strategic information, data stores, analytical methods, and products.
Key responsibilities of the incumbent include the facilitation, coordination and support of data retrieval and analysis tasks in support of Bundled Care Program initiatives, undertaken to reduce practice variability amongst UW Health providers caring for patients who may be included in a current or future bundled care initiative. By reducing practice variability, the cost of care can be reduced and efficiency improved, without compromising the quality of the care provided to those patients receiving bundled care. The incumbent uses skills in large database management to focus on detailed analysis for a wide variety of decision makers across the continuum of care, providing expert interpretive and educational assistance to end users of data; and leveraging complex and varied data/information sources (clinical, financial, and operational) to provide profiling, modeling and synthesis as applied to clinical knowledge management, performance measurement, and planning activities.
The incumbent will ideally have clinical training and/or experience, with an understanding of the nuances of care delivery, in order to fully and efficiently understand the objectives of analytic tasks and to effectively communicate results of analyses back to other clinicians.
The duties of this position include on-going programmatic support (development and maintenance of analyses that take place continuously or episodically on a scheduled basis), and support of projects with defined outcomes and endpoints. The incumbent works on a broad variety of assignments, the majority of which requires an advanced level of analytic competency with an expanding knowledge base and skill set. This position provides analytic and project support to all UW Health faculty and staff, and is called upon to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in analysis and reporting. The incumbent is expected to apply a level of independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assigned tasks. The position requires knowledge of the processes and procedures of the UW Health CCKM in order to successfully complete assigned tasks. The duties of the position require the incumbent to concentrate in a complex environment while doing multiple activities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Responsible for development and dissemination of analyses focused on informing the development of projects assigned to the Bundled Care Program and CCKM.
§  Work closely with CCKM staff and clinical leaders to identify process and outcome variation and develop systems to monitor the effectiveness of clinical knowledge tools and bundled care programs.
B. Responsible for development and dissemination of analyses conducted in support of bundled care-based quality improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
§  Support cost-reduction initiatives through identification of opportunity and risk; measurement and projection of demand, utilization modeling and financial modeling.
§  Identify variation in resource utilization; use data mining and visualization techniques to understand variation.
§  In conjunction with clinical leaders, establish performance metrics and reports to monitor progress toward achievement of cost-reduction goals.
§  Use a variety of database and statistical tools, internal and external data sources, modeling techniques, interpretive judgment skills, and presentation techniques to deliver actionable information and intelligence to decision makers.
C. Responsible for development and dissemination of analyses focusing on data related to medication use, laboratory testing and radiological imaging.
§  Leveraging UW Health data resources, develop, produce, and assist with interpretation of data related to the use of ancillary services, with the intent of identifying and supporting the elimination of inefficient use
§  Provide scheduled (monthly, quarterly, annual) reports on resource utilization in a timely manner. Identify root causes when variation or negative trends are observed. Identify new data elements and visualizations that may add value to existing reports.
§  Respond to a variety of ad-hoc requests for data and analyses as they pertain to resource utilization, clinical quality and safety, and operational efficiency. Work with customer to identify metrics to report on and to develop appropriate report format.
§  Assist users of information and analysis products at all levels of the organization with expert interpretive assistance.
§  Provide subject matter expertise in clinical, pharmacy, laboratory testing and radiological imaging to staff across the organization.
D. Other Responsibilities as Assigned
§  Assist in training of new and existing staff
§  Project or committee task force assignments in CCKM and matrixed departments.
§  Provide assistance to researchers with study design, IRB applications, data retrieval, data analyses and manuscript preparation

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education /

Minimum

/ 1.  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Doctor of Pharmacy, or other relevant degree.

Preferred

/ 1.  Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or other relevant field.
Work Experience /

Minimum

/ 1.  Five (5) years of professional experience in in a health related field, with an emphasis in analytics.
2.  Demonstrated analytic skill, ability to think critically.
3.  Demonstrated ability to analyze business or clinical workflows and how they relate to the storage of data.
4.  Demonstrated ability to provide on-the-spot consulting and data insight.
5.  Demonstrated knowledge of advanced code development in SQL, SAS, or similar tools required
