Robyne:Kepa Kurl is an Aboriginal owned and operated Gallery and also we’ve got this little business out on this beautiful beach, called Lucky Bean Café.

I find it very challenging with our youth of today because there are so many distractions. Their self-esteem, their confidence needs to be taken into consideration.

I was talking to Max Employment about the internship, which I absolutely love because it had given me time to think about the individual that I was going to take on and employ.

In the industry it takes special people where you need to have personality, smile, patience, good customer service, knowledge of the products that you’re in. Yeah,Anastasia has picked up a lot of those good skills.

The internship started off with her having to do five hours a day in my Gallery which was from 10am to 3pm. And also I made her to be responsible for her own self, to make sure that she did the right thing, you know her dress code, turning up at the right time. Max Employment helped with her uniforms and they put her through the senior First Aid Certificate and she’s doing another beautiful Barista course coming up.

The financial incentive that the internship gave to our business is very, very helpful. To have that extra funding come in to any business, because there’s so many overheads.

I saw her grow within three months, she started to chat a little bit more, we got to know each other and I just feel very proud to see her grow and develop and her family’s very proud of her. The decision to make full time with Anastasia was no worries.

Anastasia: Life now is awesome, it’s the best job ever. Working on the beach or in the Art Gallery. So I’m really happy with where I am today.

Robyne: Tourism WA is doing a tourism hospitality course at TAFE and I’ve spoken to Max Employment about that so she’ll be doing that. The world is her oyster and it’s up to her where she goes from here. Anastasia will just blossom, bigger and better.

I would highly recommend the Youth Jobs Path program to anybody who is looking for youth.
