Overview

Main Purpose: / National Citizens Service (NCS)

Due to the nature and pressing need of the work you will be required to work such hours as are necessary for the full and effective performance of your duties, including evening and weekend work. This role is full time and will include residential attendance and management.
25 days per annum plus Bank holidays.
Frequent travel in Gloucestershire and occasional national travel.
Stakeholder/Group Pension Scheme available.

The role is to take management and development responsibility for:
·  NCS recruitment, staffing, management and delivery in Gloucestershire
·  NCS staffing, management and delivery in Worcestershire
NCS is the government's flagship youth programme for 16 and 17 year olds, launched nationwide in 2013. Over 200,000 young people have graduated from NCS since it began, contributing millions of hours of social action in the process.
Participants experience residential activities away from home and team-based skill building sessions, before developing their own Social Action Project designed to benefit their local communities. NCS aims to create a more cohesive, engaged and responsible society.
·  To ensure that the expansion of the NCS programme in both areas is achieved.
·  That all targets in relation to recruitment, expression of interest, sign up, turn up and completion of programme are met.
·  To ensure that delivery staff are recruited, trained and managed.
·  To maintain a quality service to young people across all provision.
·  To establish, organise and monitor regular supervision of staff
·  and volunteers.
·  To maintain communication with our contract provider.
·  To ensure that all residential facilities are booked.
·  To be part of an on call team during peak delivery times
·  To undertake training and other developmental activities as required
·  To assist in the development of policies, procedures and practices within Young Gloucestershire
·  Carry out regular risk assessments of all activities under your management
·  To ensure efficient management of projects budgets
·  To be an active member of the senior management team taking a wider view of the organisation.
·  To aid young people’s progressions to positive outcomes.

Person specification

Skills, Knowledge and abilities

Essential

·  Awareness of the NCS programme and its ethos

·  Awareness of current issues faced by the Voluntary Sector

·  Experience of working in a range of management positions

·  Demonstrable commitment to recognising and valuing young people’s achievement in a broad range of learning settings.

·  Evidence of recent commitment to personal professional development.

·  Communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, including experience of writing accurate and concise reports

·  Experience of working on his/her own initiative to an agreed action plan

·  Excellent negotiation skills and an ability to handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy

·  Understanding and promotion of equal opportunities in both staff and client work.

·  Ability to work effectively as part of a team with shared and overlapping objectives

·  Driving licence and willing to drive Young Gloucestershire people carriers and vans

·  A “can-do” approach

·  Ability to work flexibly

·  High level of communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, including experience of writing accurate and concise reports
