A grant awarded to UWA by the National Science Foundation will allow up to 8 students per year the opportunity to participate in a scholarship and mentoring program designed to help them achieve their academic and career goals.

Applicant's eligibility:

The applicant must fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Be enrolled full time (12 or more credit hours) at UWA
  2. Be pursuing a degree in biological and environmental sciences.
  3. Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National, U.S. Permanent Resident or Admitted Refugee
  4. Demonstrate academic potential or ability (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0)
  5. Demonstrate financial need, defined for undergraduate students by the U.S. Department of Education guidelines for need-based federal financial aid
  6. Nursing and Health Science students are not eligible

Successful applicants will receive:

  1. $8,500 scholarship assistance per student per academic year (maximum of 4 years);
  2. Academic advising and assistance;
  3. Professional development activities;
  4. Career services and counseling;
  5. Peer mentoring;
  6. Faculty mentoring.

To retain the UWA BOSS scholarship for the maximum four (4) years recipients must:

  1. Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  2. Maintain full time status at UWA
  3. Demonstrate satisfactory progress towards a degree in biological and environmental sciences.
  4. Participate in all required events in the program (including, but not limited to, regular group meetings and mentor meetings; normally there are only 6 – 7 meetings per semester)
  5. Regularly check and respond to scholarship program related communications
