The Co-Teaching Workshop for Field Supervisors and Cooperating Teachers was held on Wednesday, September 14 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Southern Middle School. We had a good turnout. Cathy Cook from Glendover Elementary School co-presented with Dr. Brennan.
Dr. Brennan provided several resources for field supervisors along with websites:
- EDTHENA – there is a 10 minute demo that helps teacher analyze teaching using classroom video and online collaboration.
- MET – through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation at Stanford University. See policy brief for developing a classroom observation system for school systems. U of L uses this and charges the students -- $150 -$200.
- IRIS – or Free resources for faculty to help with instructional and classroom issues, classroom management, and especially those with disabilities.
- TEACHSCAPE – There is a charge for these resources.
- ATLAS – Videos from National Board certified teachers. See Dr. Brennan for membership opportunities.
- NCREST Images of Practice: of practice.html
- Time Stamp for Classroom Observations – For recording notes during classroom observations that will allow a time stamp to indicate when it was observed. See Adding Automatic Time Stamps.html.

Dr. Brennan introduced Dr. Gerry Swan who is working with KDE on a project of Peer Observation Training that includes:
- Platform is inOTIS
- Covers preconference
- Videos
- MIC students are currently completing this training
- Assessment piece that they must pass
- Can produce license
- Ability to create own materials with other institutions
- Co-teaching can be added to this platform – all schools in Kentucky would be able to utilize
The discussion centered on considering questions and ideas including those listed below:
What are some things we are doing that could be incorporated here?
- Digital Citizenship
- Embedded questioning
- Suggest having Joan Mazur come in to speak about the narrative simulation
- Design takes time to come up with a good case.
On-Line courses – How would this interface?
- Use this like an assignment
- Can interface with Canvas
- Can be part of the portfolio review
- Can do observations in here.
- Video from ATLAS was incorporated
- Can be multi-disciplinary
- Can expand content by sharing something we all need.
How does this fit faculty needs?
- Can create customized platform that would be specific to UK.
- Set requirements for license to be variable.
- What are the issues of common interest?
- How are we developing effective pedagogy?
- Invite Joan Mazur to share her narrative simulation work next semester.
For those interested in building a case, the examples below were offered to provide food for thought:
- IRB exposure
- Co-Teaching and/or Restraint Training - PBIS
- Platform for Special Ed Teachers across the state that are National Board Certified as our school partners.
Following Dr. Swan’s presentation short discussion ensuedabout EDP 202, 203, 301 hours and how these are recorded. It appears that not all instructors require that students record experiences in OTIS.
Dr. Brennan agreed to meet with EPSB officials about co-teaching and with course coordinators for EDP 202 and 203 and EPE 301.
She also explained that Kera Ackerman will present the Positive Behavior/Restraint Training as a concurrent session at the Professional Seminar on December 2.
To conclude the meeting, she introduced Rachel Hoover of the James Stuckert Career Center. Rachel works with students beginning in the TEP to student teachers. On-line appointments are available for student teachers. She will also be attending the Professional Seminar in December.
