SALARY:£25,520 to £28,771, inc. ILWpro rata

HOURS:21 per week

ANNUAL LEAVE:25 days + 3 days to be taken at Christmas when the office is closed

POST BASED AT: London SE1

CONTRACT DURATION:Eight month contract

Aims of the Post

  • To assist in the planning, implementation and delivery of Carers Week – an annual awareness campaign delivered by a partnership of charities led by Carers UK.
  • Working to generate media profile and generate creative new publicity and campaigns through social and traditional media

Main duties

  1. Be a point of contact for all local partners with enquiries about registering for Carers Week, ordering Carers Week materials and publicising Carers Week events.
  1. Supporting the Carers Week Manager to develop campaigns working with the Carers Week partners to reach new audiences in the media, public and with professionals
  1. Support the production of online and printed publications and campaign materials (seeking quotes, liaising with the printers etc) and working with partners on content.Ensure that materials are despatched within a timely fashion, working with volunteers, as appropriate.
  1. Create, maintain and develop media lists targeted appropriately using relevant media databases.
  1. Develop and maintain an accurate database of carer media case studies. This will include finding case studies for journalists, recruiting new case studies through working with colleagues at the partner organisations, and liaising with case studies to ensure they are supported and well-briefed.
  1. Be a point of contact for enquiries from the media, local press officers, MPs, journalists, carers, professionals, etc.
  1. Ensure that Carers Week’s website, Facebook page and Twitter account is kept up to date.
  1. Draft copy for editorial pieces.
  1. Manage media monitoring and develop systems for the collection of data in support of KPIs to be reported to the Carers Week national partners in August 2013. Including using Google Analytics and media monitoring service.
  1. Manage entry and evaluation of basic data relating to campaigns e.g. questionnaires, evaluation forms, etc. and ensure that this data is regularly entered and updated in database and manual files.
  1. Assist with research design, analysis and report writing for the Carers Week annual survey.
  1. Provide information and co-ordinate the quarterly and monthly progress reports for the Carers Week partners and sponsors.

General

  1. Attend staff meetings and Carers UK conferences and events as directed.
  1. Work at all times in accordance with all policies and procedures of Carers UK including the Equal Opportunities and Confidentiality Policies.
  1. To reasonably undertake any other duties as required by the line manager.

Essential Skills/Experience required

Skills needed:

  1. Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  1. Ability to communicate with different audiences in all formats.
  1. A track record of media or campaigns work.
  1. Creativity and an eye for strong stories and campaign opportunities.
  1. Strong organisational and administrative skills, including juggling a high and complex workload.
  1. Ability to plan and execute activities without close supervision and work on own initiative.
  1. Working knowledge of media, Access and Excel databases, ability to process andextract data.
  1. A very high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  1. Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  1. Ability to work in a team and good inter-personal skills.
  1. Respect for and understanding of the needs of carers and their families.
  1. Very strong IT skills.
  1. A talent for using social media creatively.
  1. Experience of using a content management system to update website content.
  1. A commitment to equal opportunities.

Desirable skills:

  1. Previous experience of working across campaigns and policy.
  1. Skills in DTP (experience of working with Quark Express, Indesign or Microsoft Publisher).
