Program (Bee Informed)
Frances Akridge VP, introduces Dr Engelsdorp with beeinformed.org via Skype.
Goals are to create a partnership with backyard, part-time and commercial beekeepers to collect data about colony management for the lay person and researcher to use for evaluating effects of various techniques.
Three ideas behind the 5 year project:
1) Colony loses are complicated
2) Answers are out there
3) However, no one listens (everyone has their own ideas)
To-date, results from past data collected are showing a 33% colony loss each winter. That's not sustainable.
A bit more intriguing data...
Ready to feed your bees? Could sugar water be better than frames of honey?
Should you treat for mites? The cost-factor may determine your actions.
To participate visit,
http://beeinformed.org
All the data will be broken down into local regions making the data even more priceless.
The next survey will be conducted between April 2 and April 20, 2012.
