Post-Secondary Information:

  • Career Cruising:

A comprehensive and interactive career guidance resource that provides the information you need to make the right career choice. It includes in-depth profiles of hundreds of different careers, information on colleges and universities, and something no other resource has:interviews with real people in every career.

Under “assessments”, choose the “career matchmaker” option to answer questions that will match your likes to a suitable career; “my skills” to see how your skills match up with the careers you’re interested in; “learning styles inventory” to see how you learn and retain information. Use the “careers” tab to find a career you want to learn more about and under the “Education” tab in this section, find out which schools in Canada offer programs relating to your chosen career. Username is southhill and the Password is careers

  • Education Planner:

Explore your post-secondary options in BC. Education Planner contains information on programs offered at BC’s post-secondary institutions, and general educational planning information. Search programs by interests, subjects, institutions. Find program requirements. A great tool to finding out what programs are available!

  • Post-Secondary Application Service of BC (PASBC):

BC’s universities, colleges, and institutions prefer applications through the Internet.To apply, you will need:

  • What programs you are applying for (please do your research BEFORE you start applying)
  • Address, phone number(s), email address, emergency contact name and phone number(s)
  • Personal education number (PEN) – find this on your transcript or graduation plan
  • Names and dates of high schools and post-secondary institutions attended (please note that our adult schools are under one name: “Continuing Ed #39” – look for this under the drop-down menu)
  • Official status in Canada and date of landing if applicable
  • Credit card (Visa or Mastercard) to pay the application fee (please have this with you!)

Make sure you write down your username, password and any confirmation numbers you get from this site!!!

  • Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC):

OUAC is Ontario’s application for admission system. Note that our adult schools are under their own name.

  • Post-Sec Institution (PSI) Selection/Choices:

  • BC Transfer Guide:

You may wish to enrol in a transfer program at a college. The BC Transfer Guide will tell you which courses transfer from one institution to another.Remember that counsellors at colleges and universities will help you ensure that your courses transfer – meet with one when you start your program.

  • TOEFL:

The TOEFL test is the most widely respected English-language test in the world, recognized by more than 7,500 colleges, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries.

  • IELTS:

Another proven English language test that thousands of educational institutions recognize. SimonFraserUniversity administers the IELTS test each month at various locations.

  • LPI: An English Language test to access local post secondary institutions

Financial Aid:

  • Ministry of Education:

Ministry information on the Passport to Education program and provincial and district scholarships. You can obtain Passport to Education dollars for your achievement in Grade 10 to 12 courses. See your academic advisor.

  • South Hill/Main Street Scholarships & Bursaries

Are you taking classes at South Hill and/or Main Street? Are you graduating by August and plan to attend post-secondary after you graduate? If so, see the Outreach Worker at your school (or Jocelyn) in mid-April to obtain application forms to many scholarships and bursaries that your school offers.

Another resource to locate a variety of scholarships, normally posted in the spring time.

Sign up for a free account to access an extensive database of scholarships, bursaries and grants. You’ll also find information about student loans, applications and budget planning.

Check out this Canadian resource for the information and interactive planning tools to explore learning opportunities, research occupations, and create the financial plans to achieve your goals.

  • Student Aid BC:

Student AidBC offers assistance to BC residents who need help in overcoming financial barriers to post-secondary education. This site offers step-by-step, detailed information on student loans and other sources of financial assistance. Apply for a loan here at the beginning of June when loan applications are made available.

  • Check the Financial Aid webpage of the school you are applying to!
