HMS LLANDAFF ASSOCIATION

2011 REUNION

UPDATE

Dear Lads and Lasses,

I have been working on pulling together the above reunion and I am happy to say that things are going well. To date we have over 40 people attending.

I will be issuing daily orders with a detailed programme for the reunion a little nearer to the date.

Set out below is a very brief plan for the weekend:

Highlights include: On Friday late afternoon /early evening; a meet and greet and good old chin-wag session over a buffet meal. There will be some light entertainment and a slide show of old pictures of life on board the Llandaff. (A real trip down memory lane).

Most of Saturday will be a free day to look around Newcastle, which has a super shopping centre, only a 15 minute Metro ride away. Back at the hotel, in the evening there will be a tot issue, followed by the Gala Dinner and more entertainment.

Gala Dinner Menu:

Starter: Fantail of melon with soft fruits.

Main: Sliced lamb rump with Boulangere potatoes.

Dessert: Irish cream profiteroles with toffee sauce.

Happy hour prices will be offered in our allocated bar throughout the weekend.

On Sunday, after breakfast, a group activity has been organised at the British Legion Club, West Jesmond. This includes an indoor market and, of course, the usual hospitality in the bar.

Return to the hotel on completion. Evening meal for those booked in for Sunday evening.

Slinger has mentioned in his recent News Letter that Mihoko, the Japanese girl, who was entertained on board Llandaff, during the ships visit to Japan in the mid 60’s, may be attending. I have been in touch with Mihoko recently and she and her husband are very keen to join us but owing to her husbands work commitments, they are unable to make the reunion this year.

Finally, if you haven’t already booked your place to attend this reunion please do so soon. This is a unique opportunity to celebrate in the place where the Llandaff was built and lots of effort is being made to make the occasion special. There are people attending from all commissions. There may even be one or two dockyard maties, who were involved in the building of the Llandaff.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

I will look forward to seeing you in October.
