SUMMARY INFORMATION RELATING TO THIS POSITION

Post: STR LOCUM APPOINTMENT FOR TRAINING (LAT)/CLINICAL FELLOW IN CHILD & adolescent psychiatry

base: aranthre centre, paisley road, renfrew

The post is in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in Renfrew CAMHS commencing from the beginning of August 2017 or as soon as possible after this date. The Renfrew Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service provides a multi-disciplinary mental health service for children and young people under 18 years of age. This is a well developed and experienced CAMHS Team and the successful applicant would have experience of working across a service that offers excellent training and experience in community-based CAMHS.

Applicants must have:
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
MRCPsych examination; or
A specialist qualification in psychiatry from an EU Member State that complies with the requirements of EU Directive 2005/36/EC Please note that letters of equivalence to MRCPsych provided by the Royal College of Psychiatrists are no longer a valid alternative to holding the MRCPsych examinationand will not be accepted as equivalent to the MRCPsych
Full GMC registration and a licence to Practise.
Have evidence of achievement of foundation competences from a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or equivalent, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice; including:
make the care of your patient your first concern
Evidence of achievement of CT/ST1 and CT/ST2 competences in psychiatry at time of application
Evidence of achievement of CT/ST3 competences in psychiatry by time of application or confirmation that these will be achieved by time of appointment All competences must be as defined by the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ curriculum relating to core psychiatric training. Acceptable evidence includes ARCP or equivalent certificates, Certificate C (equivalent core competence form)iv, or alternative detailed certification demonstrating that the applicant has attained and maintained core competences, including psychotherapy, as set out in all 19 ILOs in the 2013 core psychiatry curriculum. Applicants without all the necessary evidence at the time of application must submit a written statement from their educational supervisor or tutor stating that all these competences will be achieved by the time of appointment. This includes applicants from Core Psychiatry Training who are expecting an outcome 1 from their end of CT3 ARCP. This written statement supplements the requirements to provide Form C, appropriate ARCP evidence etc.
Hold current valid driving licence or provides an undertaking to provide alternative means of transport to fulfil the requirements of the whole training programme
Be eligible to work in the UK

This post will hold educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will be Locum appointment for Training. If appointed as a Clinical Fellow the post will be recognised for the Training.

Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

1.This is a full-time locum appointment for training post/Clinical Fellow from August 2017 until July 2018.

The successful applicant will be based with the Renfrew Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service based at the Aranthrue Centre, Paisley Road, Renfrew. The post holder will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing psychiatric services to outpatients with in reach to inpatient facilities as required.

2.Current Service Provision

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde was created in 2006 by the amalgamation of the whole of NHS Greater Glasgow (GG) and part of NHS Argyll and Clyde. As a result of significant investment and expansion a number of health board-wide services were developed in response to identified needs of several groups of children and young people who were not well served by the existing arrangements. These services were focused on children and young people with mental health problems –

  1. who also had a learning disability (LD-CAMHS);
  2. who were also involved in serious offending (Forensic or F-CAMHS);
  3. who were also looked after and accommodated (LAACMH team);
  4. who required intensive home treatment.
  5. who required support from the Self Harm Team.

(ii)CAMHS Consultants in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde

This post will provide Psychiatric Services to the multi disciplinary CAMHS Team based at Renfrew CAMHS. The holder of the post will be expected to work alongside other members of the team in the provision of outpatient related services.

Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Teams are managed in Greater Glasgow and Clyde by local Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCPs) alongside other Community Children Services to deliver children and young people’s specialist services with one Head of Specialist Children Services. The Tier 4 Hub i.e. Forensic, Learning Disability, Complex trauma, Academic, Eating Disorder and Intensive CAMHS) are managed by the Chief Officer for West Dunbartonshire HSCP for children and young people’s specialist services in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The management structure cascades from the Chief Officer for Specialist Children’s Services to the head of specialist children’s service and to the local service managers who are accountable to the Head of Specialist Children’s Services. This management structure is supported by the clinical director for CAMHS.

The Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA) model of service delivery has been implemented across Greater Glasgow and Clyde. In the Renfrew CAMHS Team the Consultant Psychiatrists provides specific partnership sessions and choice and core partnerships as his/her job plan allows.

The Renfrew CAMHS Service works alongside local children’s services and local educational establishment in Renfrewshire.

4. DUTIES OF POST

The postholder will join a multi-disciplinary team which provides out patient care. The principle duties of the post will entail working with patients in the community in conjunction with other members of the local CAMHS team, local authority partners and colleagues in Tier 4 CAMHS in NHSGGC. Inpatient care is provided for children in the national child inpatient psychiatry service based at Caledonia House in the Children’s Hospital and for 12-17 year olds in Skye House, the regional adolescent psychiatry inpatient service.

OUT OF HOURS WORK

The post includes out of hour’s duties in Child and Adolescent psychiatry in evenings and at weekends. The post holder will contribute 1 in 10 to out of hours emergency psychiatry services on the CAMHS Higher Trainee rota.

OCCASIONAL EMERGENCIES

The post holder accepts that he/she will also perform duties in occasional emergencies in unforeseen circumstances, at the request of clinic managers, in consultation where practicable with his/her colleagues both senior and junior.

TEACHING

The post holder will be expected to participate in the teaching of medical students, as well as teaching students of other disciplines.

AUDIT/RESEARCH

The post holder would be encouraged to participate in audit/research projects and has a designated day each week to develop knowledge and experience in this area. There are supervision meetings hosted by the University of Glasgow academic department to support this work.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Continuing Professional Development is encouraged, as well as involvement in higher trainee teaching and training programmes. Advice on continuing postgraduate education and careers counselling is available from both the Training Programme Director and educational supervisors.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The conditions of service are those laid down and amended from time to time by the Hospital and Medical & Dental Whitley Council.

- If appointed as an StR (Locum Appointment for Training) the salary range will be: £31,220 to £49,091 per annum (pro rata)
- If appointed as a Clinical Fellow the salary range will be: £31,220 to £41,305 per annum (pro rata)
New Entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the minimum point of the salary scale, (dependent on qualifications and experience). Salary is paid monthly by Bank Credit Transfer.

SUPERANNUATION / New entrants to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde who are aged sixteen but under seventy five will be enrolled automatically into membership of the NHS Pension Scheme. Should you choose to "opt out" arrangements can be made to do this via:
