DEPUTY DIRECTOR

MISSION: The International Human Rights Funders Group is a global network of grantmakers committed to advancing human rightsaround the world through effective philanthropy.
POSITION: IHRFG seeks a committed and collaborative Deputy Director to work closely with the Executive Director in shaping IHRFG’s vision, leading the implementation of its new five-year strategic plan, ensuring IHRFG’s financial sustainability and overseeing the management of the organization’s day-to-day operations. Passionate about IHRFG’s core value of member leadership and involvement, the Deputy Director will work closely with all stakeholders, including the Steering Committee, staff, funder-members, foundation supporters, peer funder networks and a broad range of human rights actors, to ensure the sustainability and success of IHRFG’s work. After a phase of substantial growth, IHRFG is at an exciting crossroads, and the Deputy Director will play a critical role in IHRFG’s next phase of development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Programs: Playing a key role in the ongoing evolution, coordination, direction and oversight of IHRFG’s educational, research, policy, membership and communications activities, including:
o Initiating dialogue and development of new initiatives in response to field-wide trends
o Ensuring programming is aligned with IHRFG’s overall vision and values
o Strengthening cross-program strategy and integration
o Developing strong frameworks for annual and long-term planning and systematizing opportunities for reflecting on, learning about, and evaluating IHRFG’s work
o Oversight of IHRFG’s Education/Convening and Membership/Communication program areas to develop high-quality programming and member services
· Fund Development: Shaping, implementing and monitoring a robust and creative fund development strategy that ensures financial sustainability, including:
o Implementing and managing all aspects of IHRFG’s foundation grants processes
o Developing and strengthening all of IHRFG’s revenue streams and identifying new opportunities
o Overseeing and ensuring effective membership dues and grants systems
· Management and Operations: Working closely with our fiscal sponsor and all staff to ensure smooth functioning of all key operational areas of administration, finance, human resources and office maintenance, including:
o Overseeing and monitoring all elements of the organization’s finances, including organizational and program budgets and tracking income and expenditures and financial reports
o Acting as lead staff-developer, implementing staff performance review processes, goal-setting, providing support and guidance and professional development opportunities
o Ensuring that day-to-day operations are efficiently organized and staff work in a supported environment and are able to thrive
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Leadership and management-level experience, preferably in the arenas of human rights and/or philanthropy
· Inclusive, community-focused, and flexible, with experience in collaboratively working with diverse constituencies
· Enthusiasm for and proven track record in grant writing and fundraising
· Highly skilled communicator, writer and editor
· Strong financial management, budget development and analytic skills
· Demonstrated skills in strategic planning and evaluation
· Ability to track multiple projects and relationships and ensure deadlines are met
· Successful track record in inspiring, leading and directing a close-knit staff
· A creative and entrepreneurial spirit, embracing the sense of possibility
· Positive, “can-do” attitude and sense of humor!
