Hello! My name is Haylee Langton. I am a Junior at Eastlake High School and this year, I have started a club called KidsCore. KidsCore is a club where elementary school students have the opportunity to be tutored by Eastlake High School students.

Margaret Mead PTSA has already sent out our flyer (attached in this email) in their weekly newsletter and I have received great feedback and many requests from parents for tutors.

Before I go into more detail about KidsCore, I think that it is important that you know a little more about me.

•I started KidsCore this past fall

•I am a National Honor Society Officer at Eastlake

•I am on the Lake Washington School District Instructional Materials Committee

•I worked at KidsQuest Children’s Museum from August 2014 – August 2015

•I have volunteered with KidsQuest from the sixth grade through today

•I am a Link Crew Leader at Eastlake

•I am the captain of the Eastlake Girls Swim and Dive team

•I am on the Athletic Leadership Council at Eastlake

KidsCore has over 50 student tutors ready to help the children at your elementary school!

All of the tutors who are a part of KidsCore have to have turned in a letter of recommendation from a place where they worked with children, or from a teacher who highly recommended them. They also have gone through basic training on how to tutor children. The training was based on META (the club at Eastlake where high school students tutor other high school students) standards and modified according to tips from KidsQuest classroom settings and research done online about elementary school age tutoring.

The process begins when the parents send an email to the address I get that email and assign a tutor to them based on their needs and recommendations (for example if they want a tutor who is a senior). Ideally each tutor would be paired with one child for a significant amount of time, but a parent is allowed to change tutors, no questions ask.

When the tutors are paired with a student, it is between the tutor and the parent to determine when they would like to meet, but they will be meeting in the Sammamish library (as it is public and easy access for the majority of the students in the area).

I’m reaching out to see if you would send out the flyer I have attached in your weekly newsletter, continuing through the rest of the year, to the parents of the students at your school?

Sincerely,

Haylee Langton
