Training for new appointees (EVC training)
In December 2012 The Department for Education (DfE) issued amended health and safety advice on educational visits which set out the legal duties and powers for local authorities, school leaders, school staff and governing bodies. This was updated in June 2013.
The London Borough of Newham requires all schools to have a named Education Visits Co-ordinator (EVC) to reduce the likelihood of accidents on visits within the UK and abroad. This person must have received training to ensure that they are competent to fulfil the role which includes overseeing the approval, planning, risk assessment of and preparation for visits.
Two separate training sessions for new appointees have been arranged to take place in the Autumn term 2013 and Spring term 2014, details of which are in the attached course programme. Schools are encouraged to reserve a place quickly to ensure a preferred date is secured.
Sessions are open to all schools and other educational establishments and will have no particular emphasis on the target age group of risk.
It is a requirement to attend this course that the nominated person has previously undertaken risk assessment training and has experience of writing risk assessments. If they have not, then they should contact Corporate Health and Safety as without this knowledge they may not be considered competent to undertake the full role of the EVC.
The course will be held at Francis House, 760 Barking Road, Plaistow, London E13 9PJ on Wednesday, 16th October2013and Wednesday, 5th February 2014 between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
This course is offered free of charge but please note there is a no-show/late cancellation charge of £100.00 per person to cover administration and tutor costs.
