Communications and Marketing Manager

Status of role:Full time

Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer

Location:Caledonia House, South Gyle, Edinburgh

Role Summary:

The overall purpose of this role is to improve Scottish Gymnastics communications infrastructure at all levels both internally and externally to raise the profile of Scottish Gymnastics and promote the work we carry out to our membership, partners and key stakeholders.Promotes activity, maximises media opportunities to heighten engagement and grow visibility of gymnastics in Scotland and SG as a governing body with messages delivered in a coordinated and consistent approach.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Lead the development and delivery of SG external communicationsstrategy
  • Lead the management of all SG communications channels (including but not limited to (CRM, website, social and digital media)
  • Lead on all organisational internal and external communications
  • Raise the profile of ScottishGymnasticsand Scottish gymnasts
  • Manage and developnew technology related communications
  • Manage the promotional activity associated with key events including the creative design of any materials

Key Objectives:

  1. Lead and manage the delivery of external communications
  • Lead the development and implementation of all external communications, including the annual report
  • Manage the relationships with various media contacts and create press releases as required
  • Help shape departmental communication plans and strategies, particularly across the Performance, Development, Events and Education teams
  • Provide communications support and liaise with British Gymnastics in relation to membership packs, club guide etc.
  • Deliver strong budget management & control of programmerelated finance
  • Manage the design creation of any promotional materials
  1. Lead and manage the delivery of internal communications
  • Lead on embedding CRM as a communication tool across the organisation
  • Lead on all organisational internal communications
  1. Increase the profile of Scottish Gymnastics and its gymnasts
  • Create pre and post event media releases and manage photo opportunities to drive up awareness of SG events, initiatives and programmes and drive ticket sales
  • Communicate from events where gymnasts compete as Team Scotland (Northern Euros, Celtic Cup etc.) communicate results and report on performances
  • Develop strategies which ensure Scottish Gymnastics events can be followed online (including but not limited to, live streaming and live scores)
  • Manage the communications infrastructure and coverage of SG events including media and photographic accreditation and video recording
  • Work closely with the Events team to ensure that all events are promoted in a way which increases awareness and engagement with SG events
  • Work with the Events team to develop spectator audiences and grow attendance levels
  1. Manage and develop technology related communications
  • Design and implement an intranet type solution for internal use
  • Manage the website including build, design, articles and news creation in relation to oversight and permissions
  • Develop and implement social/ digital media strategy including identifying how new technologies can be implemented to improve SG communications
  • Manage Inhouse video production process across all internal departments
  • Manage Inhouse design expertise

  • Communicate and interface regularly with:-

SG Events team

SG Staff

SG Technical Panels

External partner relations (sportscotland, 2018 European Championship organisers, BG)

Key media contacts

  • Develop and maintain strong effective partnerships and relationships with key agencies
  • Represent SG at relevant Scottish, UK and regional forums / events
  • Attend SG’s AGM, staff meetings and management meetings as appropriate

Monitoring & Evaluating

  • Provide regular monitoring and evaluation reports to an agreed format for SMT, Board and any other relevant body
  • Work with the senior management team to provide regular monitoring and evaluation reports to an agreed format that evidences the impact of the SG Strategy
  • Work with colleagues in Events to establish a robust system for capturing and reporting data in relation to audience growth, SG visibility and customer experience satisfaction levels

  • Educated to degree level or hold a communications/marketing qualification or have relevant communications/ marketing experience

Experience /
  • Experience of managing and delivering communications strategy
  • Experience of managing a marketing campaign to increase awareness and revenue returns from a wide mix of marketing and communications activities
  • Track record of leading and sustaining partnership working
  • Proven record of budget management and financial accountability
  • Experience of brand management and improving the customerexperience
  • Experience of working with different content types and skills, e.g. design, writing, video
