Purpose of the role

The Learning & Development Advisers are responsible for managing the ongoing development and provision of university wide organisational, leadership and management development activity under the direction of the Leadership and Management Development Manager. The post holders also work closely with the HR Advisers, the Equality & Diversity team and senior stakeholders to identify areas where learning and development interventions (formal training, workshops or facilitated sessions) are required and then ensures the delivery of these.

Main areas of responsibility:

1.  Develop, design, deliver and evaluate in-house training programmes (including corporate induction) to meet identified organisational need, covering a range of general, management and leadership development subjects. Undertaking learning needs analysis and then utilising up to date and innovative delivery methods and techniques to ensure practical, easy to apply interventions are delivered.

2.  Assist the Leadership and Management Development Manager in the production of strategy and plans as required and be responsible for producing annual and termly training plans to meet agreed training and development needs.

3.  Manage a range of relationships including influencing and co-ordinating senior stakeholder groups and external providers as required to ensure that the range of training and development on offer meets identified organisational need. Act as learning and development expert for other internal trainers as required.

4.  Manage the effective marketing of the department’s learning and development activities and associated administration to ensure the widest appropriate take up of opportunities and the efficient running of all processes.

5.  Work closely with HR Adviser colleagues to ensure seamless support is provided to Schools and Departments across staff development, organisational development and human resources activities and that learning needs are included in the Learning & Development delivery plan.

6.  Act as facilitator and coach internally (using specialist tools and techniques, e.g. Myers Briggs, where appropriate): within the department to support training and development activities; and more broadly within the organisation to assist in the resolution of team conflicts or team development opportunities and initiatives.

7.  Monitor, measure, evaluate and report on staff training and development plans and achievements, within agreed formats, budgets and timescales, initiating and implementing agreed changes, where appropriate.

8.  As required, to assist in the development and co-ordination of activities such as mentoring, job shadowing and coaching opportunities for staff in support of wider talent management activity.

9.  Ensuring our Learning & Development solutions are up to date with best practice in the industry by representing the University through participation in national L&D activities, networks and benchmarking, where there is a demonstrable benefit to the University.

Experience / ·  Evidence of an excellent understanding and a proven track record of delivering quality standards in a customer focused environment, including the use of innovative solutions to achieve appropriate outcomes.
·  Evidence of providing guidance and advice on learning and development issues; delivering and developing generic staff and / or management skills training and presentations to a wide range of staff groups.
·  Experience of group facilitation, coaching techniques and the application of specialist tools and techniques such as Myers Briggs or similar.
·  Excellent communication and influencing skills.

·  This is a part-time post and is permanent.

·  Annual leave entitlements are shown in the table below and increase after 5 years’ service. In addition, to the eight Bank Holidays, there are university discretionary days between Christmas and New Year. All leave, including bank holidays and discretionary days, is pro-rated for part time employees.
