6th Grade Chorus-Purple Day

Hamburg Middle School, 2014-2015

Mr. Scheer

Long-term substitute for Mrs. Hartman

Welcome to Hamburg Middle School and welcome to 6th Grade Chorus! This year we will work as a team to build our musicianship skills in a positive learning environment. Listed below are the expectations necessary for success in chorus and as leaders of HMS.

Course Description

6th grade chorus is a graded class that involves learning healthy vocal skills, practicing proper performance etiquette, and working together as a team.

Grading Policy

In 6th grade, chorus is a graded class based on the following:

1.  Student performance and participation in rehearsals, 80%

*Student performance and participation will be graded every day in rehearsal. This includes following all of the expectations listed below.

2.  Participation in the concerts, 20%

*Participation in chorus concerts is required. See “Concert Attendance” below for more information.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are held every other day in the HMS auditorium. All chorus announcements and rehearsal schedules will be posted on the bulletin board in the cafeteria.

Expectations

·  Be Attentive and Respectful: Please respect each other as we find our own comfort zone. Listen while others are sharing ideas or giving instructions. All talking is to stop when rehearsals begin.

·  Make Smart Choices: We want everyone to feel safe in the auditorium and this will be assured if we are all aware of personal space. Eating, drinking, and chewing gum is not allowed.

·  Have a Positive Attitude: Music will take on the attitudes of those creating it. Our ensemble needs you to have a positive attitude!

Consequences

Inappropriate behavior during rehearsal will result in a lowered rehearsal grade and possibly detention after school. If the problem continues after a detention is served, an office referral will be made.

6th Grade Chorus-Purple Day

We have two concerts that all chorus members must attend.

Concert Attendance

Concert attendance is mandatory. All performances are listed above so you can put them on your family calendar now. If an emergency (illness, death in the family, etc.) prevents the student from attending the concert, Mrs. Hartman needs to be informed before the performance if possible and a signed note must be brought from home when the student returns to school. An alternative assignment must be completed to receive up to full credit for the concert grade. If the absence is unexcused, an alternative assignment must be completed to receive partial credit for the concert grade.
