Course objectives

Broadly, the course is intended to examine in greater depth aspects of strategic thinking, formulation, implementation and evaluation and to specifically:-

  1. Enhance the students understanding of strategic requirements of the organization
  2. make the student appreciate the functioning of the organization as a corporate body
  3. To develop an appreciation of the dynamic and intricate external environment within which an enterprise functions and the need to plan and initiate appropriate responses
  4. To develop an understanding of the intricacies of general management and the role of the chief executive in the formulation and implementation of appropriate strategies for his organization as well as those of other manager.
  5. To enhance the integration and application of principles learnt and knowledge gained from other academic disciplines and general experiences
  6. To foster analytical ability in problem solving and decision making situations.
  7. To align Kenya Vision 2030 to Strategic Management
  8. To be able to develop a viable strategic plan for implementation by an organisation

Evaluation criteria

This will be as follows:

  1. Assignment - (Case study analysis of contemporary issues / Group work) 15%
  2. Develop a viable and implementable strategic plan 15%
  3. Final examination 70%
