As a teacher of technology at my school, it is important for me to develop my skills in how I present material to a variety of developmental levels and diverse cultures. Additionally, students are self-regulated learners who define meaningful goals and are capable of understanding how specific activities relate to those goals while using standards of excellence to evaluate the success of their goals (Learning Point Associates, 1997). Students are motivated to learn and evaluate their products with technology. Following the reflection of Walden’s general and specialization outcomes, I have identified several outcomes that will benefit my students and me as a teacher. Furthermore, one general outcome will present a small challenge.

The subsequent outcomes are those that will aid in my specific field: G4.1-Will be able to adjust teaching strategies and techniques based on reflective thought; S2.4-Plans for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities; S5.1-Uses technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning; and S6.1-Models and teaches legal and ethical practice related to technology use (Walden University, 2006). The challenging outcome is presented in G2.1-Will be able to plan and design developmentally appropriate and subject accurate learning experiences to support diverse needs of learners.

I teach video broadcasting, newspaper production, and yearbook publication. In this specialized field, I must remain flexible as the technology is always changing or requiring further maintenance. Thus achieving Outcome G4.1 is a standard that will enhance me as a professional and benefit my students by adjusting what and how I teach by implementing modern changes. S2.4 produces effective planning in the implementation of new technological resources while effectively infusing it with student learning in the classroom. I am using tools like the Internet and computer to engage in professional development through the Walden University Online Program that satisfies outcome S5.1. I am developing into a better technological resource and provider for my students as a result. Because I work with numerous video projects that involve music and newspaper articles that require research, applying S6.1 adheres to my policy of seeking permission to use copyright music and avoiding plagiarism.

One small challenge presented in the outcomes is G2.1 where I will be able to plan and design developmentally appropriate learning experiences to support diverse learners. The challenge is minor as I already adjust my system for students with special needs that take my elective. However, this handful of students represents a population that can communicate effectively. My strengths include teaching technology to different ages. The test lies in teaching to developmentally disabled students who have trouble communicating effectively. This challenge has not yet presented itself in the curriculum I currently teach. I will address this challenge by researching the issue further and discussing interventions with colleagues experienced in that area.

Overall, I am confident that I am meeting and improving in all the outcomes presented. Though some are more challenging than others, they are not impossible. Both the general and specialized outcomes provide an excellent framework and foundation in evaluating my role as an instructional technology teacher.
