IUCN Overview

International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN, helps the world find pragmatic solutions to pressing environment and development challenges.

IUCN’s work focuses on valuing and conserving nature, ensuring effective and equitable governance of its use, and deploying nature-based solutions to global challenges in climate, food and development. IUCN supports scientific research, manages field projects all over the world, and brings governments, NGOs, the UN and companies together to develop policy, laws and best practice.

IUCN is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental organization, with more than 1,200 government and NGO members and almost 11,000 volunteer experts in some 160 countries. IUCN’s work is supported by over 1,000 staff in 45 offices and hundreds of partners in public, NGO and private sectors around the world.

Goals and Objectives

The current project goal is to standardized our firewall and Wireless hardware infrastructure keeping the same line of product on all our core offices. Some of our branches are already furnished with Fortinet products (Firewall and Access Points) as well as our Head Quarters in Gland. IUCN also has the Global Firewall Management Tool which help us to manage our platforms from a centralized perspective. Having Fortigate as our main security appliance, will help to avoid the need to perform a full transition to a new product.

Meeting 24x7 support is a paramount importance. We would like a “follow-the-sun” scenario. IUCN, therefore, is on the process of implementing a managed global network using shared components and configurations, so it is very important to play in a parallel scenario with IUCN current deployment.

The offices that we would like support with the new hardware are The Main Secretariat offices located in Belgium, Burkina Faso, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Fiji, Germany, Jordan, Kenya, Serbia, Thailand, and United Kingdom.

Desired Benefits and Outcomes

IUCN anticipates deriving the following benefits from the new Firewall and Wireless Solution:

1.  Provide the underlying infrastructure for efficient collaboration across the Union.

2.  Provide a rock-solid, secure infrastructure for efficient use of our global systems.

3.  Allow for better usage of IUCN personnel around the world with follow-the-sun support.

4.  Ensure that policies enforced IUCN, security respected and IT resources well utilized.
