POLICY:

These guidelines are intended to help you make the best use of the Internet resources at your disposal. You should understand the following:

·  The Dr. John Warner Hospital provides Internet access to staff to assist them in carrying out their duties for the hospital. The intended purpose for the internet is that it will be used to lookup details about suppliers, products, to access government information, reference material, continuing education and other statutory information. It should not be used for personal reasons.

·  You may only access the Internet by using the hospital’s filtering software, firewall and router.

·  Before you are able to access the internet, you must have authorization from our department manager.

Guidelines for Employees:

When using the Dr. John Warner Hospital’s Internet access, you should comply with the following guidelines.

DO

·  Do keep your use of the Internet to a minimum.

·  Do check that any information you access on the Internet is accurate, complete, and current.

·  Do be cautious for internet fraud, identity theft, and malicious viruses.

·  Do respect the legal protections to data and software provided by copyright and licenses.

·  Do use the internet per the Acceptable Use Policy, Internet Usage Policy, and your department manager’s guidelines.

·  Do inform Information Services Department immediately of any unusual occurrence.

DO NOT

·  Do not download text or images which contain material of a pornographic, racist or extreme political nature, or which incites violence, hatred or any illegal activity.

·  Do not download copy written content from Internet sites.

·  Do not download software from the Internet and install it upon the hospital’s computer equipment.

·  Do not use the hospital’s computers to make unauthorized entry into any other computer or network.

·  Do not disrupt or interfere with other computers or network users, services, or equipment. Intentional disruption of the operation of computer systems and networks is a crime under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.

·  Do not represent yourself as another person by using e-mail, instant messaging or other software.

·  Do not use Internet access to transmit confidential, political, obscene, threatening, or harassing materials. Any information of a confidential nature must be encrypted and the process reviewed by the Information Services Department.

·  Do not transmit patient information using a personal internet account.

·  Do not discuss ANY protected health information unless you have been cleared by your department manager or the Security Officer.

·  Do not disable, remove, or compromise the internet filtering software.

Please note the following

§  All activity on the Internet is monitored and logged.

§  All material viewed is scanned for viruses.

§  All activity that is logged, is audited, and sites blocked according to policy

If you are in any doubt about an issue affecting Internet Access you should consult the Information Services Manager.

ENFORCEMENT:

Any breach of the hospital’s Internet Access Policy may lead to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
