VALENTINE YOUTH SOCCER RULES
Good sportsmanship will be displayed before, during, and after games by all participants, coaches, referees, and spectators.

Shin guards are recommended. No jewelry please! We are not responsible for anything lost or stolen.
The Referees will make decisions on severity of a fouls & their decision will be final.
Play will consist of two (2) - 12 minute halves with a three (3) minute half time.
No hands intentionally, please! A ball that is kicked & hits another players hand or arm is not a “handball”. This rule will be enforced the 4th - 6th grade divisions especially.
Goalies canpick up a pass directly from one of their teammates.
Throw-ins: Player must have both feet on the ground and throw the ball with both hands over the head.
A player cannot touch the ball twice in a row when putting the ball into play. They cannot throw a ball in then kick it, ex: they cannot kick off or penalty kick to themselves.
A player cannot kick, trip, slide tackle, or hit another opponent.
Offside – (applies to 4th -6th grade) Player cannot be offside on a corner kick, goal kick or throw in. There must be a defender between them and the goalkeeper. You are not off sides if you are standing on your side of field.
If OFFENSIVE team kicks the ball out it is started with a goal kick. If DEFENSIVE team kicks it out at baseline it is started with a corner kick or if kicked out at side line it is started with a throw in from that point.
Ball is not in play until it leaves penalty area.
Goal kicks will be taken by the Goalie.
Direct Kicks: A type of "free kick" given after fouls such as handballs, hitting, or kicking. On a direct kick, a goal can be scored by kicking the ball into the goal without it first touching another player.
Indirect Kicks: A type of "free kick" given after minor fouls such as obstruction. On an indirect kick, another player (on either team) must touch the ball before a goal can be scored. The referee will raise his arm above his head and leave it up until the ball is kicked. Indirect kicks are taken from site of foul, Teams can score on direct kicks but the ball must be touched by another player to score on an indirect kick.
Penalty kick – Given as a result of a contact foul or hand ball. All players must remain out of the Penalty Area until ball is kicked. Goalkeeper must keep both feet on goal line until ball is kicked. Ball will be placed on penalty box line –middle or corner. To be awarded this kick – the penalty must have happened within the penalty box. See diagram on back.
Substitutions: Done “on the fly”.
Time Outs: Teams may take (1) – 45 second time out per half.
