Activities: / Honors- The teacher will review verb tense consistency and parallel structure. The teacher will distribute practice worksheets on said topics and partner students to complete the work.
General- The teacher will remind students of the plot progress of the novel started before the break, and then proceed with the reading. Students will cite textual evidence when answering analytical questions. / The teacher will return the assessed second argumentative essays and the Florida State rubric for such.
The teacher will guide the students through the process of noting what the three earned scores mean and how they can maintain/improve their scores in the future.
The teacher will ask 1 or 2 students with a score of 10 to read their essays aloud.
The teacher will show the students the state informative rubric and ask students to describe similarities and differences with the argument essay rubric. / Honors- With the novel Of Mice and Men in hand, students will begin viewing the film, tracking what is emphasized or absent as compared to Steinbeck’s novel.
General- The teacher will review verb tense consistency and parallel structure. The teacher will distribute practice worksheets on said topics and partner students to complete the work. / Honors respond to a compare/contrast question about authors' presentation of either characterization, dialogue, or setting in the novel "Of Mice and Men" and the movie version they continue to view.
General classes continue to read "Breathing Under Water" and respond to questions related to theme, literary techniques, plot, characterization, etc. / Honors classes will finish "Of Mice and Men" movie and assess knowledge of the novel using critical thinking skills.
