Processional Hymn 29

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation; O my soul praise him, for he is thy health and salvation: all ye who hear, brothers and sisters draw near, praise him in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who o'er all things so wondrously reigneth, shelters thee under his wings, yea, so gently sustaineth: hast thou not seen how thy entreaties have been granted in what he ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee; surely his goodness and mercy here daily attend thee: ponder anew what the Almighty can do, if with his love he befriend thee.

Praise to the Lord, who, when tempests their warfare

are waging, who, when the elements madly around thee are raging, biddeth them cease, turneth their fury to peace, whirlwinds and waters assuaging.

Praise to the Lord, who when darkness of sin is abounding, who when the godless do triumph, all virtue confounding, sheddeth his light, chaseth the horrors of night, saints with his mercy surrounding.

Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him! All that hath life and breath come now with praises before him! Let the Amen sound from his people again: gladly for aye we adore him.

Hymn 217 - "O Canada!"

O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise the True North, strong and free; from far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free. O Canada! We stand on guard for thee. O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.

Lord of the lands, beneath thy bending skies, on field and flood, where e’er our banner flies, thy people lift their hearts to thee, their grateful voices raise, may our Dominion ever be a temple to thy praise. Thy will alone let all enthrone, Lord of the lands, make Canada thine own. Lord of the lands, make Canada thine own.

Leader: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

PEOPLE: AND ALSO WITH YOU.

Leader: Almighty God,

PEOPLE: to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of Confession:

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Absolution

Priest: The peace of the Lord be always with you.

PEOPLE: AND ALSO WITH YOU.

The Collect of the Day: (said together)

Eternal God, who caused all holy scriptures to be written for our learning, grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Gradual Hymn 133

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home.

Under the shadow of thy throne thy saints have dwelt secure; sufficient is thine arm alone, and our defence is sure.

Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame, from everlasting thou art God, to endless years the same.

Time like an ever-rolling stream bears all its sons away; they fly forgotten, as a dream dies at the opening day.

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home.

All stand for the reading of the Gospel.

Reader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Sermon: The Rev. Canon Phil Bristow

Choir Anthem: “O Day of Peace” (CP 573)

O day of peace that dimly shines through all our hopes and prayers and dreams, guide us to justice, truth, and love, delivered from selfish schemes. May swords of hate fall from our hands, our hearts from envy find release, till by God’s grace our warring world shall see Christ’s promised reign of peace.

Then shall the wolf dwell with the lamb, nor shall the fierce devour the small; as beasts and cattle calmly graze, a little child shall lead them all. Then enemies shall learn to love, all creatures find their true accord; the hope of peace shall be fulfilled, for all the earth shall know the Lord.

The Apostles' Creed: (together, standing)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offertory Hymn:

For The Healing of the Nations

For the healing of the nations, God, we pray with one accord; for a just and equal sharing of the things that earth affords. To a life of love in action help us rise and pledge our word.

Lead us, Father, into freedom, from despair your world release; that, redeemed from war and hatred, all may come and go in peace. Show us how thro' care and goodness fear will die and hope increase.

All that kills abundant living, let it from the earth be banned: pride of status, race or schooling, dogmas that obscure your plan. In our common quest for justice may we hallow life's brief span.

You, Creator God, have written your great truth for humankind. Help us grow into your likeness, change our hearts, renew our minds; strengthen us for love and service ‘til this Earth your peace shall find.

¨  During Communion please maintain a quiet attitude of prayer or join in quietly singing the following hymns. Prayer ministry is offered at the lobby doors during Communion.

Hymn 59 (Common Praise)

Jesus calls us here to meet him, as through word and song and prayer we affirm God’s promised presence where his people live and care. Praise the God who keeps his promise; praise the Son who calls us friends; praise the Spirit who, among us, to our hopes and fears attends.

Jesus calls us to confess him Word of life and Lord of all, sharer of our flesh and frailness, saving all who fail or fall. Tell his holy human story; tell his tales that all may hear; tell the world that Christ in glory came to earth to meet us here.

Jesus calls us to each other: found in him are no divides. Race and class and sex and language – such are barriers he derides. Join the hand of friend and stranger; join the hands of age and youth; join the faithful and the doubter in their common search for truth.

Jesus calls us to his table rooted firm in time and space, where the church in earth and heaven finds a common meeting place. Share the bread and wine, his body; share the love of which we sing; share the feast for saints and sinners hosted by our Lord and King.

Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace

Make me a channel of your peace: where there is hatred, let me bring your love; where there is injury, your pardon, Lord; and where there's doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace: where there's despair in life let me bring hope; where there is darkness, only light, and where there's sadness, ever joy.

O Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving to all men that we receive, and in dying that we're born to eternal life.

(Sebastian Temple, c.1967, Franciscan Comm. Centre; CCLI License #459447)

A New Commandment

A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another as I have lov’d you, that you love one another as I have loved you.

By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. By this shall all men

know that you are My disciples, if you have love for

one another.

[Author unknown, by permission CCLI #459447]

Prayer After Communion:

Priest: Living God, in the eucharist you fill us with new hope. May the power of your love, which we have known in word and sacrament, continue your saving work among us, and bring us to the joy you promise. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

People: Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Blessing (followed by sung “Amen”)

Recessional Hymn 273

God, the omnipotent! King, who ordainest great winds thy clarions, lightnings thy sword; show forth thy pity on high where thou reignest; give to us peace in our time, O Lord.

God the all-merciful! earth has forsaken meekness and mercy, and slighted thy word; bid not thy wrath in its terrors awaken; give to us peace in our time, O Lord.

God the all-righteous one! man hath defied thee; yet to eternity standeth thy word; falsehood and wrong shall not tarry beside thee; give to us peace in our time, O Lord.

God the all-wise! by the fire of thy chastening, earth shall to freedom and truth be restored; through the thick darkness thy kingdom is hastening; thou wilt give peace in thy time, O Lord.

So shall thy children, with thankful devotion, praise him who saved them from peril and sword, singing in chorus, from ocean to ocean, peace to the nations, and praise to the Lord.

The Dismissal:

Leader: Go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit.

People: Thanks be to God.
