In the 2016 – 2017 school year, Pope High School will have over 850 devoted young men and women in its sports program. Continued support from our sponsors enables all students in our school to be members of the Pope Greyhounds sports teams. Being a part of team sports will teach our athletes lessons beyond the field by promoting responsible social behaviors and academic success, confidence in one’s physical abilities, an appreciation of personal health and fitness, and strong social bonds with individuals and institutions.

POPE HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION

Alan C. Pope High School was founded in 1987. It is a Standard Public School of the State of Georgia and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In 1989, Pope received the prestigious Georgia Blue Ribbon of Excellence in only its second year of operation. The school mascot is the greyhound. The original school colors were Columbia blue and silver grey. In the 1990's Navy and white were added.

•Pope High School prides itself on having a wide variety of sports available to our students, with teams in 15 different sports including: Soccer, Track and Field, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Lacrosse, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Softball, Volleyball, Wrestling, Golf, Tennis,Swimming and Gymnastics.

•Pope’s Stadium has a seating capacity of 3,200 and is home to all four of the Greyhounds’ soccer teams.

•850 +/- Pope Athletes for all sports combined including Varsity, Junior Varsity and freshman teams and approximately 350 additional athletes in Feeder Programs.

•20,000 +/- Spectators annually for all Springsports played in Pope High School venues.

Girls Soccer: Region Champions 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2011, 2012 & 2014. State Final Four 2014. State Champions 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2002.

Q& A - Where Does the Money Come From and Where Does it Go?

Q - Does Pope High School Athletics receive funding from Cobb County?

Answer – No, all funds are raised through player participation fees, fundraising activities, PHS Booster Clubs, concession sales and Community Business Sponsors.

Q – Can athletes be excluded from playing on a team if they are unable to pay the required participation fees?

A - Every student has the right to play, regardless of their ability to pay the fees. That is one of the reasons Poperelies on its sponsors and fundraising efforts, to make sure that all students who want to participate can.

Q -Does itreallycost that much to operate a team?

A – Yes, various expenses associated with running a sports team include uniforms, equipment, coaches’ salaries, transportation, security, EMS at events, sports trainers, officials, special training, meals,etc.
