GradeCalculation and Analysis

Nine weeks grades in Honors Geometrywill be calculated using the following percentages:

Tests & Quizzes: Tests will be given at the end of each chapter and sometimes at mid-chapter as well. Tests will be announced at least one week in advance of the test date. If you do not pass a test; you may come after school for extra help and retake the test with the highest score possible being a 69.Quizzes will be both announced and unannounced. Quizzes will cover small sections of a chapter. Warm-Up quizzes are included in this category.

Classwork, Homework, & Warm-Ups: You are expected to show all work when completing classwork and homework to receive full credit. Giving your best effort to classwork/homework will show where your strengths and weaknesses lie and help us to better utilize our time during class. Any classwork that is not completed in class automatically becomes homework. Homework may be turned in late twice each nine weeks. After that, no late work will be accepted. Warm-Ups should be completed upon entering the classroom and are used to get our minds focused on math. Warm-Ups will consist of 2 – 4 problems each day. We will go over them and make corrections each day. Warm-Ups should be labeled with the correct date and Warm-Up number. Warm-Ups will be checked at least 4 times during a nine week period. Warm-Up quizzes will be given periodically during each nine weeks.

Classroom Policies

  1. Show respect for others and yourself at all times.
  2. Come to class with the proper materials and ready to work each day.
  3. Give your best effort to everything you do.
  4. Academic dishonesty of any kind will not be tolerated. An academic honesty statement will be signed by each student at the top of any quiz or test they take.
  5. Cell phones will not be used in Mrs. Barker’s classroom. Anyone caught using a phone to receive or give answers during a test or quiz will receive a grade of “0”. If a student is seen texting for any reason during a quiz or test, it will be an automatic 10 point deduction to their grade. There will be a basket on the front table in which students may place their cell phones so they cannot be used during class.
  6. All cell phones will be placed in the cell phone parking lot in Mrs. Barker’s classroom each day. Each student will be assigned a number in the cell phone parking lot during the first week of school.
  7. Make-up work and assignment deadlines will be made in accordance with the policies outlined in the student handbook.

Dear Parents,

My name is Lindsey Barker; and I am thrilled to be your child’s math teacher this year! I am excited to be at Glenwood; and I am looking forward to a positive, productive school year with your child in my math class.

Since I am going to be spending this school year with your child and learning about him or her; I want you to know a little about me. I am a graduate of Glenwood School and Auburn University. I have been married to my husband, Jimmy, for 14 years; and we have two beautiful, active children. My son, Caleb, is 12 years old; and my daughter, Carsyn, is 8 years old. I love to watch football and baseball. I am a huge fan of the Auburn Tigers (WAR EAGLE! ) and the Atlanta Braves. My hobbies include: reading, jewelry making, cooking, and spending time with my family and friends.

My teaching philosophy is that every child can learn math if it is presented in the right way and the child is willing to work hard. I have high expectations for all of my students because I want them to be successful in my class and in life. I expect my students to work hard and always show respect for themselves and others. I want my students to be able to utilize and apply math outside the classroom; and I want my students to see that math is fun!
