AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND MR. HSIEN C. “SAM”WANG’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE UNDERSTANDING AND FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA (TAIWAN) AND TO EXTEND MOST SINCERE BEST WISHES FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS.
Whereas, Taiwan and the United States are longstanding allies, both deeply cherishing the common values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law despite the lack of diplomatic relations between the two countries; and
Whereas, since 1981, the State of South Carolina and Taiwan have enjoyed cordial, mutually beneficial sisterstate relations, a long friendship that continues to strengthen with each passing year; and
Whereas, many Taiwanese professionals have successfully immigrated to the State of South Carolina, and they have greatly enriched both our multicultural diversity and the economy of our great State. Among these professionals is Mr. Hsien C. “Sam” Wang, a Taiwanese native who immigrated to the United States in 1982 and subsequently moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina where he established his restaurant business, the Szechuan Chinese Restaurant, between 1992 and 1997; and
Whereas, Hsien Wang, now a citizen of the United States, loves America and enjoys being a Chinese chef. He relishes cooking and serving delicious, authentic Chinese food to his customers and making friends with them. As a result, his restaurant furnishes a supportive setting for hisTaiwanese and American friends to get to know oneanother and their respective cultures; and
Whereas, having also been in the restaurant business for many yearsin Knoxville, Tennessee (the Golden Wok Chinese Restaurant, founded 1998), Mr. Wang is currently planning to again establish a restaurant in South Carolina; and
Whereas, he finds strength for his many endeavors in the strong support of his family: his wife, Lorna Wang, and their three fine sons, Sebastian Wang (Carol), Austin Wang, and Brandon Wang; and
Whereas, as a smallbusiness owner, he not only has built lasting friendships with the Rock Hill community but alsohas dedicated his time and talents to supporting activities and events in the commercial arena, as well as to enlarging and improvingcultural exchanges between our nation and Taiwan, including serving as personal guide and translator for Representative Thomas E. “Tommy” Pope’s 2012 trip to Taiwan. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend Mr. Hsien C. “Sam” Wang’s contributions to the understanding and friendship between the State of South Carolina and the Republic of China (Taiwan) and extend most sincere best wishes for continued success.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mr. Steven HueiYuan Tai, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta, Ambassador R. C. Wu, Director General of The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto and Mr. Feng Chin Chiu, Speaker of Chia-Yi City Council, in Chia-Yi City, Taiwan.
