Under 10 League

Castlepollard Celtic 5 Mostrim Albion 0

This was the second game this season for our under 10 team, and after loosing narrowly to Killoe Celtic in their first game it was important for the team to do well. CCFC got off to a great start at the beginning of the first half and immediately put Mostrim Albion under pressure, this pressure paid off and in the fifth minute Charlie McCormack took a fantastic shoot from a great cross from Nathan Aughey and hit the cross bar, but Aaron Kennedy was there to put away Celtics first goal. CCFC continued to push forward and Mostrim Albion was unable to handle the speed and agility of Nathan Aughey. Great shoots from Charlie McCormack and David Devine were deflected by the Mostrim defenders and 2 own goals were scored. Mostrim pushed forward on a couple of occasions and forced some great saves by Kevin O’Grady the CCFC goal keeper. At half time CCFC were 3 nil up and cruising.

Again, as in the first half CCFC came out with all guns blazing but Mostrim fought hard and kept CCFC at bay. Then in the 12th minute substitute Cathal O’Brien hit the ball from outside the Mostrim box and scored a cracking goal and the celebrations by Conor were also fantastic. Mostrim continued to fight back and again Kevin O’Grady bravely defended the CCFC, he was also assisted by great defence work from both Luke Moore and Eoin Daly. In the dying minutes of the game CCFC pushed forward again and Paul Nangle neatly put away the last and final goal for CCFC.

All of the team put in great a performance and deserved a well earned victory.

Man of the Match: Nathan Aughey

Team: Kevin O’Grady, Nathan Aughey(Captain), Paul Nangle, Luke Moore, David Devine, Cathal O’Brien, Charlie McCormack, Padraig McCarthy, Matthew Lonican, Aaron Kennedy, Eoin Daly and Desmond Smyth.

The game got of to a great start for the visitors when Niamh McCarty scored the first goal from a free kick. The Celtic midfield worked very hard, Emma Keating made a run fromthe half way line to cross for Lauren Sheridan who finished with a shot that found the back of the net. It wasn’t all one way traffic and Jade Crone pulled off some great saves just before UCL found the back of the net. In the second half Siobhan Nea was defending well and blocked some dangerous attacks from UCL. Cameron Bierney cleared the ball to Alana Bates who passed the ball to Lauren Sheridan to score her 2nd goal of the game but UCL fought back with 2 quick goals to level before Castlepollard Celtic got stuck back in. Lauren Sheridan scored her 3rd goal and Castlepollard forth just before the end and that was enough to win the game for Celtic.

Castlepollard Celtic 3 Abbey Rovers 3

It ended up honours even and the points shared in this thrilling encounter as Celtic took on Leitrim rivals Abbey Roversin their first home game of the season. The visitors got ofto a perfect start when they took full advantage of a mix up at the kick off to score withinthirty seconds.Lifted by this Abbey added a second on five minutes and it looked like it might turn into a rout.

Stunned at being two nil down andalready having to chase the game,Castlepollard made some changes with theintroduction of Ryan Moore on the left flank. This brought a betterbalance to the teamandMoore was instrumental inwinning Celtic a free kick as he put Ryan McGraw through who was then hacked down just outside the box.

Captain Eoin Fagan took the resulting free kick and scored a beauty, giving the Abbey keeper no chance as the ball skimmed the underside of the crossbar before hitting the back of the net.

Castlepollard were now starting to play and put pressure on the Rovers defence. Both strikers, Niall Keating andMcGrawhad chances to get the equaliser but found the keeper to be on top form.

Just before the break Rovers went on the counter and managed to convert making it 3 - 1 as the half time whistle blew. Following the interval,Jack McMahon was introduced up the right wing and the speedy midfielder was causing the visitors all kinds of problems and had a couple of chances to score.

Celtic were now in the ascendancy, but credit to the Abbey keeper whopulled of some great saves to keep the gap at two goals. As the game went into the last ten minutes it looked like the home team were going to taste defeat for the first time this season.

Asthe home team kept up their unrelenting pressure, they finally got the goal they rightly deserved whenKeating latched onto a through ball from Anthony Fagan and duly stuck it away from close range.

Luke Moore came on for the last five minutes and made an immediate impact when he scored the equaliser, following a fantastic solo run up the left wing from Ryan Moore, who cut into the penalty box and laid a perfect pass for his younger brother to dispatch into the right hand corner.

As the game went into stoppage time, Castlepollard were now looking for the winner and had another couple of chances before the final whistle.

Man of the Match - Ryan Moore

Under 15 Girls League

UCL Harps 14 Castlepollard Celtic 0

The under 15s girls traveled away to face a very strong UCL team and although they suffered a very heavy defeat they came home with the heads high. UCL fielding three girls who have played soccer for Ireland played some terrific soccer but the Castlepollard girls never gave in and tackled and ran themselves into the ground. Jenny Hynes, Niamh McCarthy and Breean O Reilly doing well also Captain Aoife Gallagher was exceptional.

Rinn Raiders (Mohill) 1 Castlepollard Celtic 8

Castlepollard were made work much harder for this win than the final score line suggests. Previously unbeaten Rinn were unlucky to lose their best player just before half time with the score only two one to the visitors. It was Raiders who went into the lead on five minutes when Celtic failed to clear a corner and the Rinn forward stole in at the near post to fire the ball past Colm Kilbride in the Castlepollard goal. Ten minutes later saw Castlepollard score the equaliser and the goal of the game when they broke quickly out of defence and in a superb display of one touch football swept the ball up field in a move that involved four players and took not even ten seconds to execute before Israel Dowling slotted the ball home. Castlepollard then took the lead minutes later when Man of the Match Warren Casserly fired in a thirty yard free kick that deceived everyone before nestling in the back of the net. The Celtic backline were having to work very hard against a fast Raiders front line, both Aaron O Reilly and Keeper Kilbride made goal line clearances before Casserly followed in a hopeless cause but his speed put the home keeper under pressure and the young Casserly robbed him of the ball and walked it into an empty net. Shortly after the break Casserly completed his hat-trick when he sided footed the ball home after receiving a wonderful Kilcoyne cross only yards from goal. Casserly wasn’t finished his scoring and he made it five one on ten minutes when he outpaced the home defence and shot past the hapless keeper. Kilcoyne then took over the scoring when he chipped the keeper from just outside the box. He then got his second after Casserly pulled the ball back from the byline and Kilcoyne hit a wonderful shot over his shoulder and on the volley. Aaron Jackson completed the scoring just before the end when he raced onto a Micheal Daly cross and tipped the ball past the keeper. Another great performance that leaves Castlepollard’s under 14’s top of the table with five games played, forty two goals scored and only five conceded.

Celtic will find themselves in Donegal next week to take on local side Copany Rovers of Lavey in the second round of the SFAI Goodson Cup, the following week will see Mayo Kingpins Castlebar Celtic arrive in Fagan’s Field for the second round of the Connaught Cup, this game will be very tough for the Westmeath boys as Castlebar have just completed their Mayo Summer League and Cup Campaign with a 100% winning record. The Mayo side also contains a number of Internationals in their midst so this is a great opportunity for the Castlepollard team to see how good they really are.

Best for Celtic; Micheal Daly, Ian Kilcoyne, Ciaran Fagan and

Man of the Match Warren Casserly.

Team; Colm Kilbride, Eoin Connell, Aaron O Reilly, Alan Jennings, Scott Duignam, Ciaran Fagan, Micheal Daly, Warren Casserly, Aaron Jackson, Ian Kilcoyne, Israel Dowling, Daniel Lonican.
