ENSEMBLE WORK SAMPLE

INSTRUCTIONS

The CD-R Work Sample should represent the recorded work that best demonstrates the artistic excellence of the Ensemble.

·  Submit three to five tracks, totaling no more than 30 minutes in duration on one CD-R.

·  Excerpts from full compositions are acceptable.

·  If working with a guest artist(s), please submit samples of his/her work on up to two of

the tracks.

·  Commercially released material is allowable but must be re-recorded on the CD-R.

·  Live, studio, and “home” recordings are acceptable. Sound quality is not judged

but generally affects perception.

The ensemble performing on the work sample does not have to be identical in size or membership to that listed on the application, but it should be representative of the group for which funding is requested. The program recognizes that individual members and group size may vary over time, but an ongoing core of musicians should remain the same.

Past New Works: Creation and Presentation Program Grantees

If applying for additional funding to present a past New Works: Creation and Presentation Program grantee ensemble performing its previously commissioned piece, the first track must be a portion or movement of the commissioned work.

Tracks and Labeling

·  Record each work on a separate track.

·  Mark track information on the CD-R itself, as well as on the insert.

·  Label each track clearly with the following information:

Name and instrument of each ensemble member

Title of work performed

Use CD-Rs only

DVDs, cassette or DAT tapes, mini-discs, videotapes, or commercially packaged CDs are not accepted.

NOTE: Please test ALL of the tracks on a standard CD player.

Applications with unplayable CDs will be disqualified.
