Please remember to bring the passport for your pony/horse.

Each horse or pony may enter a maximum of 5 ridden classes (including lead rein), which must not comprise of more than 4 in any discipline (e.g. 4 Dressage, 1 Countryside Challenge or 1 Show Jumping)

No animal may compete more than three times in any class

Countryside Challenge- Will take place on Grass.

Dressage - Indoor and Outdoor arenas will be used for Qualifiers. Callers must stand at E.

Show Jumping – will take place either inside or outside depending on which arena is free.

Please tell the Secretary as soon as possible, if any of the qualified riders do not intend to go to the Championships. This will enable the next highest placed Rider who has achieved the qualifying conditions, a place at the Championships.

Junior Riders may compete as juniors until the end of the year in which they reach the age of 16.

Restricted Riders are Riders who are not classified as being an Open or Junior Rider.

All competitors will receive rosettes. Trophies must be signed for by the person in charge of the group.

In the event of any query, the decision of the regional officials and organisers will be final.

The organisers of this event have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective everyone must take reasonable precautions to prevent and avoid accidents occurring, and must obey the instructions of all stewards and officials.

Neither the organisers nor any person acting on their behalf accept liability for any loss, damage, accident, injury or illness to any horses, riders, spectators or any other person or property whatsoever.

Please do not clean Lorries out onto the car park. A fine of £50 will be issued to the group offending.

Tack Check – all tack will be checked to ensure that it complies with the RDA Competition Rules.

Qualification for the National Championships

  • Ridden qualifying classes will be split into Junior and Senior sections. 1st and 2nd in each section will qualify subject to the relevant criteria.
  • If the 1st and 2nd placed in each section cannot go forward to the Championships to represent the Region, only those placed 3rd or 4th may do so. In sections of 10 or more the first 3 will qualify.
  • Dressage, and Showjumping must achieve at least 60% in their class to qualify.
  • Countryside Challenge must achieve at least 65% in their classto qualify.
  • Dressage and Graded Showjumping riders must be classified prior to the Championships to enter the Grade 1-5 classes. Dressage riders who are not classified can only ride in the 1-6 or Intellectual Disability classes.
  • Riders may qualify and compete in more than one discipline at both Regional and National Level.
  • When entering a Regional Qualifier it should be the rider/drivers intention to attend and compete at the RDA National Championships. It is important that arrangements have been made to enable this to happen. If there is no intention to attend the National Championships please make this known on your entry form.

  • Hats. An approved hat must be worn at all times when mounted and must comply with the current RDA Health and Safety policy including any temporary standards. The current standards are:  PAS015 (1998 or 2011) with BSI Kitemark;  ASTM F1163 with SEI Kitemark;  SNELL E2001 VG1 and should be tagged with RDA Tag.

Any request for exemption from this rule must be supported by a completed and signed Alternative Hat form.

  • Leaders and side walkers must wear appropriate foot wear and gloves are recommended. If hats are worn they must be of the current RDA standard.
  • Footwear shall be recognised riding boots or other sturdy smooth soled footwear with a heel. All other footwear requires the use of either an enclosed stirrup or a recognised safety stirrup.
  • Participants and helpers should wear comfortable and suitable clothing (long trousers and long sleeved tops are recommended).
  • Jackets and body warmers, if worn, must be fastened.
  • Earrings and/or other items fixed by piercings must not be worn.
  • Whips a) One whip, or two if necessary, may be carried.

b) Neither leaders nor side walkers are permitted to carry a whip in the competition arena.

c) When saluting the rider must carry the whip(s) in the nonsaluting hand.

d) Shaped whips are permitted for dressage and countryside challenge only.

Pairs Dressage no qualifying class as is only available to those who qualify for the championships in Dressage.

They then pair up with another rider who has also qualified.

Visually Impaired Riders must be classified by British Blind Sport and must qualify at their Regional Qualifiers, If they wish to enter the Grade 4 or 5 classes the horse and rider combination must qualify at their Regional Qualifier. Riders must be classified prior to the Championships to enter the graded dressage classes I to IV. All riders, including visually impaired riders, must provide proof of their classification at the time of entry. Riders who are not classified can only ride in the 1-6 classes.

Each rider to have a helper standing at E in case they need help during the test.

Riders may only enter 2 Qualifying Dressage Class, however if they qualify for both they must inform Secretary at Prize Giving which they wish to entry at the championships so place can be offered to next qualifying competitor.

They may enter as many disciplines as they wish, taking into consideration Rule 12 (d).

The Classes and Tests at this Qualifier are the same as at the National ChampionshipsDressage

A small fence (obstacle 7) will only be included in the independently ridden classes (Class 25). You may opt not to negotiate the jump. Please mark on entry form if you wish have the jump option and make the steward aware of this before you enter the arena.

Classes 13-16 are qualifiers for the National Championships at Hartpury College, Gloucester, and will be run under Championship Rules.

Trophy will be awarded to the Rider with the best mark overall

SHOW JUMPING

Riders may only enter 1 Show Jumping Classes1-6 Except those entered for Class 6 may also do Class 7.

Riders may enter as many disciplines as they wish, taking into consideration Rule 12 (d). Each horse may only enter a maximum of five ridden classes including lead rein. These must not comprise of more than four in any one discipline.

Riders in the led classes must be led and if required side walkers may be present. Side walkers are there to support the rider - they may not command /coach the rider during the class.The unled classes,

No coaching allowed except for VI riders.

Horse Care & Knowledge

Open to all competitors, riders and drivers of RDA Groups. The class will take place in Stable Yard opposite Pollard Indoor School. All questions will relate to requirements for the Horse Care sections of RDA Proficiency Tests.

The classes will take the form of a visual and tactile test of knowledge, using illustrations and items of equipment about which the Steward will ask questions of the competitor. The Steward will record the competitor’s answers on a marks sheet that will be checked and totalled by the Chief Steward.

In the case of a competitor with hearing or communication difficulties, one helper will be allowed to facilitate communication between competitor and steward only. In every other case the competitor will be accompanied by a steward only, no other person will be allowed to enter Horse Care arena. All competitors will receive a rosette

Present a drill ride or carriage drive with riders and helpers smartly dressed – for example in their matching Group sweatshirts - on suitable ponies/horses. Arts & Crafts

Please clearly mark artwork with the Riders/Drivers name(s), title of artwork, class number and RDA Group. Unmarked artwork will not be judged Group entries must be submitted as one piece of artwork. Larger work will not be accepted.

Class 69: ‘Paint me a Picture’ – Any Age – Individual or Group of up to 4

This can be any equestrian-themed picture, using watercolours, oils, acrylics, pencil, crayon, pen and ink or

pastel etc. Entries in this class do not need to be relevant to RDA activities. Maximum size A1.

Class 70: Paintings & Drawings – Any Age – Individual Watercolours, oils, acrylics, pencil, crayon, pen and ink or

pastel etc. The work MUST be relevant to RDA activities. Maximum size A1.

Class 71: Collages – Any Age - Individual.

The work MUST be relevant to RDA activities. Maximum size A2.

Class 72: Collages – Any Age – Group (maximum 10 people).

The work MUST be relevant to RDA activities. Maximum size A1.

Class 73: Sculpture / 3-D Artwork– Any Age – Individual.
