A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Lenn Lee Nelson.

WHEREAS, Lenn Lee Nelson was an energetic man whose work ethic and demeanor influenced those around him. A passionate farmer, he began dairy farming as a child and continued in that honorable profession until late in his life; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson served on many boards around the country. A sense of civic duty inspired him to serve as President of the Vine Grove Elementary PTA, the Vine Grove Optimist Club, and the Hardin County Farm Bureau. He was a board member of the Vine Grove Recreation Program and the Hardin County Equalization Program, and served on the Hardin County Board of Education from 1965 to 1968; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson's love of his hometown and his loyalty to its citizens led him to become a Hardin Fiscal Court magistrate. Among his duties to better Vine Grove and Hardin County, he worked to improve Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was also key in the establishment of primary physician services in northern Hardin County; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was widely recognized for his hard work, earning agriculture awards such as the Distinguished Leadership Award and the Jack Snyder Award; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson's opinionated manner earned him many loyal friendships. A man of great wit and cheer, he was never afraid to say what was on his mind and never failed to stand up for what he believed would make his community better; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mary Ruth Nelson, and his brother, Johnny Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Thompson Nelson; his daughters, Diana Nelson and Janice Nelson; his sons, Doug (Lisa) Nelson and Byron (Mary) Nelson; his brothers, Carroll Nelson, Donald Nelson, Charles Nelson, and Forrest Nelson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson departed this earthly life on December 31, 2010, and an entire community joins his family and friends in mourning his loss;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The Senate does hereby express its most profound sense of sorrow and proffers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Lenn Lee Nelson during this time of his passing.

âSection 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Lenn Lee Nelson.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Dennis Parrett for delivery to the family.
