Thematic Unit: Dr Seuss and Dental Health

This week was all about celebrating Dr. Seuss and teeth! We began the week by learning all about taking care of our teeth as February is Dental Health Month. We played scientist as we did our “egg”cellent experiment. We soaked eggs in 4 different liquids: water, milk, Gatorade and soda for 24 hours to see the effects, if any, these drinks would have on the egg shells which would be simulating the enamel on our teeth. The children illustrated the experiment and wrote their predictions on day 1 and illustrated and wrote what actually happened on day 2. Ask your child to tell you what the results were, if they haven't already. I think they were very surprised!

Dr. Seuss is our March Featured Author of the Month so we have all month to enjoy his wonderful works. We made hats to wear and our Scholastic newspaper taught us some Dr. Seuss rhymes. We were supposed to eat green eggs and ham for snack today and celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday but we will postpone that until Monday. Next week, we will explore some of the many websites with games and information such as: and Lots more fun and wacky things to look forward to this month. If anyone is interested in coming in and being a Guest Reader to our class, we welcome that. Just let me know.

We are in need of 1 gallon plastic containers for an upcoming Easter project. Please send in your child with an empty container if you can. If not, please let me know. I am saving some at home but won't have 6 empty in time. If you can send them in by March 23rd that would be great. Also, we will be doing an Easter egg hunt with 1st and 2nd grade, please send in 10 pre-filled eggs by March 26th . Thank you!

SightWordsfortheweek:

two three who us would

Oursightwordwallhasgrown quite a bit now. Please practice these as much as you can at home. Even if you just do one or two a day until they master those, then choose a couple more. I will be doing another assessment on Monday.

ReadingandWriting:

As Dr. Seuss books are filled with ryhmes and sight words that we have learned, the children are excitedly reading these books any chance they get. I wish you could see into the classroom and catch a glimpse of what your children are doing. They impress me every day.

We will be starting our 5th class book next week. Stay tuned for that!

Math:Topic –Money

We completed our unit on Money. The children are having fun playing with our cash register and playing store using items in the classroom. The next unit we began this week is Comparing Numbers. We are using terms such as: greater than and less than.
