STUDENT UNIFORM DRESS POLICY

2013 – 2014

PARENT SURVEY

Worthing High School will be altering its student dress code for the 2013 – 2014

School Year. The effective date for the change will be January 6, 2014. We are gathering input from all campus stakeholders; which includes students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members. Your “VOICE” matters. So we are asking that you take a moment and complete the survey about the proposed new dress standard for students.

The Rules

Sunglasses, hats, caps, sweat bands (except when approved for PE and dance classes), and head coverings of any kind are not to be worn indoors. These items will be confiscated permanently. Any exceptions to this policy due to religious or medical requirements must be approved by the Worthing administration in advance. Jewelry or accessories depicting or making reference to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, vulgar or obscene language, sexual promiscuity, the occult, death, violence or gang-related activities may not be worn. Teeth grills are prohibited. Hair rollers, metal rakes, and combs are not to be worn. Hair should be clean and well-kept. Hair styles and artificial coloring should not detract from the educational process and are subject to disciplinary action. (No spiked or unnatural hair colors.) Jewelry items such as spiked dog collar, spiked bracelets, linked chains (for wallets or necklaces) are prohibited. Expensive or irreplaceable jewelry should not be worn to school. The school will not be responsible if these items are lost or stolen.

TOPS:

Students must wear uniform white, black, or dark green (hunter’s Green) polo style shirts or Oxford styled button down shirts. Any embroidery or logo on the shirt shouldn’t be any larger than “3 x 3”, unless it’s a uniform shirt purchased from the school store, or it is approved by the school administration.

BOTTOMS:

Khaki or black pants

Khaki or black short pants that meet at the Knee

Khaki, or black skirts for girls

Skorts for girls that are khaki or black

SHOES:

Students must wear shoes at all times. Any form of house shoe and/or flip-flop are not permitted. Sandals are permitted. However, the sandal must cover the students’ toes and they must also have a strap or some type of backing. The only exception to this rule is if there is an approved medical issue pertaining to the foot. Due to safety considerations, teachers may require non-skid, closed toe shoes in some labs during experiments or project work.

ID Badges

Id badges must be worn at all times. Students without Id badges will be in violation of the campus dress code policy and is subject to disciplinary action, per the student code of conduct. If a student loses or misplaces his Id badge, it will cost one dollar ($1.00) to replace it the first time and five dollars ($5.00) each time thereafter

Violations: All violations of the student dress code must be adhered to immediately by the student. Students will be given the opportunity to comply by putting on the appropriate clothing, or being assigned to the ISS. For students that repetitively violate this policy, they will be addressed, per the student code of conduct.
