A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND GERTRUDE PASLEY WILLIAMS OF GREELEYVILLE FOR HER OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY AND HER COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION, AND TO WISH HER EVERY SUCCESS IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Mrs. Williams graduated from Williamsburg County Training School, currently known as C.E. Murray High School, as the valedictorian of the class of 1957. She attended Allen University and South Carolina State University and graduated with a degree in business administration in 1963; and
Whereas, after graduation, Mrs. Williams worked for South Carolina State University for one year as a typing teacher and as a parttime secretary at Felton Laboratory School on campus. She married Thomas Williams, fellow graduate of the Williamsburg County Training School, before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio; and
Whereas, Mrs. Williams moved from Ohio to California and became involved with computers, receiving a certificate in computer programming and computer operations from MTI Business Schools. She worked as a computer programmer at Sandia Laboratories, a federal weapons laboratory, from 1969 to 1980; and
Whereas, after leaving California, Mrs. Williams transferred to AT&T in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she worked until her retirement in 1989; and
Whereas, Mrs. Williams moved to Greeleyville and became heavily involved with the community volunteering with the Trinity Baptist Church as a youth director, Black River Baptist Association of Williamsburg as a clerk, Williamsburg Technical College as an instructor, and many volunteer activities at the area schools including C.E. Murray High School, Greeleyville Elementary School, and the Adult Education Program in Williamsburg County School District and Williamsburg Technical College; and
Whereas, with all of her volunteer work, Mrs. Williams still has time for her family. She has two children and two grandchildren who live in Greensboro, North Carolina; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to honor Mrs. Gertrude Pasley Williams for her many contributions to her community and to the young people of Williamsburg County. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Gertrude Pasley Williams of Greeleyville for her outstanding service to the community and her commitment to education, and wish her every success in all of her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Gertrude Pasley Williams of Greeleyville.
