Course Description:

9th-12th Grades

Develop a ministry choir that will represent the school in the community by way of concerts, festivals, and other special events.

Goals & Objectives:

* Students will understand the basic fundamentals of music theory.

* Students will develop good singing habits - and be able to demonstrate good vocal principles.

* Students will work on sight singing and developing the “ear.”

* To sing and learn to appreciate different styles of music.

* To sing songs in different languages.

* To sing harmony (4-8 parts, independent harmony)

* To become skillful musicians, not just students singing choral music!

* Guide students into developing a philosophy of music that will honor God.

* To develop social & concert etiquette

* To develop a good choral sound (while working on blend, rounded vowels, and intonation while singing in unison.

* To develop skills in skits, gospel magic, giving a testimony, wordless book and other tools to complete the “ministry choir.”

* Study Hymnology

Grading:

This is a participation-based class!

Performances – 85%

Rehearsal Time (participation & behavior), preparation (meeting deadlines), Quizzes & home work, etc. - 15%

Requirements:

* Vocal Audition

* Interview questions & theory assessment quiz

* BCA staff input on student selection

* Prior to a performance an extra rehearsal may be called during after school hours (Advance notice will be given).

* Provide one dozen of cupcakes for the monthly cupcake concertos

* Choir attire:

Girls: Gown & dress shoes (gown purchased through school)

Boys: Tuxedo Ensemble & dress shoes (5 piece tuxedo purchased through school)

* Must be able to attend assigned concerts, church ministries, some galleries, and end of the year choral festival trip , tentative cost $200, could be a little lower or higher), see tentative calendar

* Parent & student signing of the covenant

If your child is interested, has the ability, and you would like for them to participate, but, would not be able to due to a financial burden, please contact Miss Smith.

Behavioral Expectations:

- Be on-time for class (seated)!

- Be prepared (check schedule on chalkboard, get folders, put music in order), sectionals music & pencil in hand, meet deadlines

- Be responsible (for your behavior & actions)

- Be cooperative (J.O.Y.)

- No food, drink, gum, electronics, chap stick, cough drops in class

- Raise hand for permission to speak.

- Remain seated at all times.

- Respect (Yourself, Everyone, Everything)

- An “enthusiastic” participator

- Encourage each other in word & deed.

- Classroom clean-up
