Paul Downey will once again take up his duties as compere on the night with Niall Art looking after all the sound and music. This will be the penultimate chance for everyone to contribute to the u14 Feile Na nOg fundraising campaign so all support would be greatly appreciated for what should be a great night’s craic. Stewarding of upcoming Derry Senior Football Championship games
As you may be aware our football grounds are hosting a double header of Derry Senior Football Championship games on Sunday 26 June 2011. Bellaghy v Loup throws in at 6pm with Ballinderry v Lavey following at 7:30pm. To facilitate these games there is large operation needed to be undertaken so that everything runs smoothly on the day. A large number of stewards will be required so please make yourself available to help out. A list of stewards from previous championship games has been kept so each person will be contacted asking for their valued contribution to the smooth running of events. A huge crowd is anticipated at what are two of the bigger games of the championship weekend so all hands to the wheel please. Thanks.
Pitch Clean up
Also to facilitate the hosting of these games a major grounds clean up is required and will take place on Wednesday 22 July @ 7pm and on Saturday 25 June 2011 @ 9am to get the grounds in tip top shape. All members of the Grounds Committee are asked to attend as well as all other volunteers who wish to help out. A lot of hands are needed so once again please don't be shy to make yourself available. The more hands available the quicker everything gets done. Thank you for your anticipated contribution.
U14 Feile Fundraiser – Big Breakfast
Thanks to everyone who attended and supported the Big Breakfast which was held in the Social Club last Saturday to raise more funds for the Feile trip. Hughes / McElwee Minor Final
The minor team captured the third piece of silverware for the Club this season when they defeated local rivals Slaughtneil last Tuesday night in the final of the Hughes / McElwee Cup held at Bellaghy. Being the first minor silverware opportunity of the 2011 season this fixture was an eagerly awaited encounter. Competitive interaction has never been lacking in previous encounters between these two squads of players since their u12 years. This final proved to be no different from those previous encounters. We should appreciate the undoubted commitment of the lads themselves and applaud the dedication of the two management teams involved. From a Watty Grahams standpoint we have been aware of the necessity to be more focused on and dedicated towards the development of our minor team in recent years led by Enda Gormley. Thankfully our efforts have at last borne fruit!
Slaughtneil played with the wind in the first half and opened the scoring with a point in the third minute. Glen responded with a point a minute later from Michael Warnock, who had captained Derry Minor Hurlers to victory over Armagh the Sunday before this game. Slaughtneil cut through the Watties defence in the eighth minute to register the first major of the game. For Glen the game was not going exactly to the script. However Ciaran McFaul pointed for Glen in the ninth minute to retain a semblance of respectability. Slaughtneil responded with a point in the eleventh minute with the scores standing at 1-02 to 0-02 in favour of the ‘The Emmet’s’. Six minutes of further play then elapsed before Emmet Bradley pointed for Glen and was quickly followed by another point in the nineteenth minute from Paul Gunning who had replaced the injured Ciaran McFaul. Three minutes later Slaughtneil added another point which was cancelled out immediately after a forty metre point from Glen’s Ryan Dougan. A minute later Stephen O’Hara added a further point for Glen but Slaughtneil quickly responded with a point of their own. Another point from Slaughtneil closed the out the first half with the score at half time Slaughtneil 1-05 Glen 0-06. Three minutes into the second half Stephen O’Hara pointed for the Watties which was followed by a further point from Conor Convery one minute later. Slaughtneil responded with a point in the fifth minute. Glen then scored two points in quick succession courtesy of Emmet Bradley and Conor Convery respectively with Glen moving ahead by one point with the scores Glen 0-09 Slaughtneil 1-05. In the tenth minute of the second half, following an excellent series of passes from the Watties, Ryan Dougan was presented with a potential goal opportunity which he eagerly availed of to move Glen four points to the good. Stephen O’Hara added to his total with another point a minute later with Slaughtneil replying with two points of their own in the twelfth and sixteenth minutes. Glen, now in a period of domination, responded with points in the nineteenth minute from Michael Warnock, the twenty fourth minute from Brendan O’Kane and in the twenty fifth minute from Michael Warnock. Slaughtneil scored their last point of the game in the a minute later with the Watties closing out the game and sealing victory with three unanswered points in the last four minutes from the boot of the impressive Paul Gunning. The final score was Glen 1-17 Slaughtneil 1-09. The game was played in an excellent spirit throughout with ‘no quarter asked and no quarter given’. These lads have grown up together, schooled together and played against each other in many competitions over the years making these fixtures hugely competitive. Many of the lads have also played together on various Derry Underage Development Squads and School Football Squads. There will be at least one or possibly two further encounters between these teams before the season ends. Congratulations to all our players and the management team on an excellent victory!

U16 Football League
The u16’s lost their first game of the 2011 league when they were defeated by Slaughtneil 2-11 to 2-09. Surely only a minor set back so keep the heads up lads and continue to work hard.

The senior camogs continue their league campaign after a small break and travel to Newbridge on Monday 20 June.
U15 Girl’s Football League
Glen had a comprehensive first victory of the season in the all county u15 league after defeating Ballinascreen. Playing with the aid of a strong wind in the first half, Glen dominated for most of the half, with scores coming from Megan O'Kane, Clare McGroggan, Deirbhle McNicholl and Lauren O' Loughlin. This left the half time score Glen 4-03 Ballinascreen 0-03. In the second half, we used our full compliment of subs and they made quite an impact with Eimear McNicholl and Lisa Duffin both getting on the scoresheet. Final Score was Glen 6-04 Ballinascreen 0-03. Overall it was a good performance from the whole team and with many of our Feile squad playing let's hope we can repeat these scoring exploits in Cork at the end of the month! Team & Scorers: Rachel Glasgow, Laura McKenna, Kerry Johnston, Caoimhe McNally, Anna McGuigan, Ciara Mulholland, Aimee Glasgow, Clare McGroggan (0-01), Orla Higgins, Caoimhe Mulholland, Niamh Caskey, Roisin McCabe, Megan O'Kane (1-00), Lauren O' Loughlin (3-00), Deirbhle McNicholl (1-02).
