ABAE Executive Director Position

Context

The ABAE is the National Governing Body for England for Olympic style boxing. The ABAE is predominantly a volunteer organisation. Its main funders are Sport England and external sponsors and it is seeking 2 Executive Directors to offer the time and skill sets voluntarily to the organization.

The ABAE Mission Statement:

The Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) is the national governing body for the sport and is responsible for the administration, development and promotion of amateur boxing throughout the country. The ABAE continually strives to develop the sport through effective governance and strong leadership ensuring ALL members can personally develop through the sport. At the heart of the ABAE’s business and operations lies the principle of treating everyone fairly and ethically, and ensuring that amateur boxing is a sport for all.

All Executive Directors will be expected to:

  • Provide leadership of the ABAE within a framework of agreed and effective controls which enable risk to be assessed and managed;
  • Take corporate and personal responsibility as a Board member;
  • Support the Chair and Chief Executive Officer whilst exercising personal responsibility and accountability;
  • Contribute to setting the ABAE’s values and standards and ensure that its obligations to its stakeholders and others are understood and met.
  • Contribute to the setting of the ABAE’s strategy by constructively challenging and helping to develop proposals on strategy and development;
  • Ensure that the necessary financial and human resources are in place for the ABAE to be able to meet its strategic objectives;
  • Scrutinise and contribute to reviews of management performance in meeting agreed goals and objectives;
  • Satisfy themselves on the integrity of financial information and that financial controls and systems of risk management are robust;
  • The Executive Directors should offer evidence of specialist skills, knowledge and experience in the sport of boxing

Person Specification

It would be essential for the Executive Directors to be able to demonstrate the following qualities:

  • A strong personal commitment to the ABAE;
  • Ability to understand the needs and aspirations of stakeholders in Amateur Boxing;
  • Commitment to the public service values of accountability, probity, openness and equality of opportunity;
  • Commitment to the needs of the members of the ABAE;
  • Understanding of the context of the environment in which the ABAE carries out its activities and the processes of planning, financial control, performance management and assurance that deliver its objectives and Whole Sport Plan;
  • Excellent communication skills and - through their use - the ability to relate to and understand the voluntary sector and the environment they work in;
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a Board, all of whose members are equally and jointly responsible for its decisions.

It would be desirable for Executive Directors to be able to demonstrate some of the following skills and experience:

  • Previous experience of management and work in the public, private or voluntary sectors
  • Previous experience of a similar nature in a comparable environment of relevance to the position.
  • Experience of decision making at a senior level
