Getting Acquainted

The first few days of school has come and gone in a flash! Old friendships are strong and new ones are growing. Our classroom will soon become a community of learners and friends. The Creative Curriculum stresses the importance of a community being a place where people feel safe, help one another, and see themselves as part of a group. Since brain research tells us that relationships with peers and teachers influence how children learn, it is our ultimate goal for the children to build positive relationships. Mostly, we want them to have fun while doing this!

We are learning about the centers in our classroom: house area, block area, art, easel, writing, table toys, sand table, discovery and listening center. The children are learning the procedures for each of the areas and they are having fun exploring theclassroom environment.

Who’s Who

We have many great adults working in our classroom. We will collectively refer to them as “teachers,” although their official school titles vary. We think this is the easiest language for the children to understand. They do not need to know who is aparaprofessional or specialist (however, weinclude this for your information). The children just view all these important adults as teachers in their lives.

The teachers in our classroom are as follows:

Mrs. Scales- Teacher (General Ed/Special Ed)

Mrs. Egan- Paraprofessional

Ms. Rokowsky-Paraprofessional

Mrs. G. (Gerstenfeld) - Speech Therapist

Ms. Trainor- Occupational Therapist

Mrs. Ayers- Physical Therapist

Snack

Here are some important reminders about snack:

Send one small snack each.

Snack should be in a LABELED package or bag. We place all the snacks in a basket and this helps us get your child the correct snack.

We will provide water in pitchers (unless you prefer to send your own) so that the children can practice pouring.

Pack snack in the main compartment of your child’s backpack, children unpack their own bags and it is easier for them to look in one place for everything.

All snacks must be peanut and nut free.As per school policy, the only acceptable snacks are fruit, vegetables, cheese, and yogurt. We have children with allergies and need you to help us keep them safe.
