Revolutionary War Event in New Jersey
Objective
- Using the Internet or books as a guide, research an event that occurredin New Jersey during the American Revolution.
- Some examples could be: Abandonment of Fort Lee, Baylor Massacre (River Vale), New Bridge Landing (River Edge) Battle of Monmouth, Morristown Encampment, Battle of Bound Brook, Battle of Red Bank, etc. Another option is the Hanging of Major Andre (’76 House/Andre Monument/DeWint House), in Tappan, NY
Presentation
- You will share your research with the class in a presentation that should last approximately three to five minutes.
- Your presentation must include at least one visual aid. This could be accomplished with PowerPoints, movies (such as Imovie), posters, film recordings, etc.
- You must use note cards in your presentation and not read directly off of a PowerPoint or poster.
- Students may work by themselves or with one partner.If you work with a partner, you must complete a partner accountability sheet to keep track of who is completing each part of the project.
Choose your partner wisely.
Travel Brochure
- Describe what led up to event, what happened during the event, who the main people involved were, and the results.
- A hand drawn map must be included.
- The final copy needs to be designed as a travel brochure. The travel brochure should include pictures and facts.
- An explanation of your event should be included and written in thoughtful complete paragraphs.
- A works cited needs to be included in your assignment. This must be handed in on a separate sheet of paper.
- If you choose to report on a local event such as Baylor Massacre, Abandonment of Fort Lee, New Bridge Landing or the Hanging of Major Andreyou are required to visit that site.
Research
- Students should use a minimum of three sources. Visiting the site is considered to be one source.
- Wikipedia and Ask. Com are not acceptable as sources for this project.
- Creativity will be taken into consideration when grading.
You will receive two grades on this project. One grade will be on the travel brochure and one grade will be on the presentation.
