9th Grade Memoir Project Requirements

This project meets the following standard:

Ninth Grade English-Language Arts Standard Writing 2.1

Write biographical or autobiographical narratives or short stories:

  1. Relate a sequence of events and communicate the significance of the events to the audience.
  2. Locate scenes and incidents in specific places.
  3. Describe with concrete sensory details the sights, sounds, and smells of a scene and the specific actions, movements, gestures, and feelings of the characters (in this case the student’s feelings); use interior monologue to depict the character’s feelings.

We will begin working on this project in August. The students will be writing rough drafts in their journals. The finished product is due May 31 (B day students) or June 1 (A Day students).

Requirements:

  • 6 Chapters: First Day of School, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Valentine, Spring break, and Free Choice.
  • Each chapter is 2 typed pages, double spaced, size 12, standard font
  • Each chapter will include a third page: an illustration. This can be drawn, a photograph, magazine, etc…
  • The project must be compiled in a slim 3 ring binder (or something similar) with each page in a sheet protector. Two pages can be placed back to back in one sheet protector.
  • A Table of Contents is required.
  • All of the language conventions (grammar, spelling, punctuation) for 9th grade are expected.
