Dear BCSSA Members:
There have been some changes this year to the safety requirements identified within the SSC Red Book , Section D, Rule D3-100 Short Track, D3-200 Lt Olympic style Training and competition and D3-300 Long Track mass start competition and training and D3-301, page 100-105. SSC have expanded the on ice safety requirements policy for skaters commencing with the 2012-2013 season. This rule is effective immediately.
· This new ruling pertains to all skaters except as stated below.
· The new rule does not apply to Learn to Skate (see below rule D3-301)
All ST skaters and Mass Start and Olympic style LT skaters must wear cut resistant tubes for all competitions/meets and training sessions when NO cut resistant suit is worn as indicated in rule D3-100, D3-200, D3-300.
These tubes shall be made out of either:
A. Kevlar
B. Dyneema
Explanation:
The cut resistant tubes must be pulled up around the ankle and must extend to and cover 10cm above the boot tops. No skin must be visible between the boot and the skin suit. Cut resistant tubes shall be worn outside the suit so that the area between the skate boot and the suit shall be fully covered by the cut resistant tube. No skin must be visible between the boot and the skin suit.
Learn to skate activities are not considered Short track training and competition and Long track mass start training and competition. As such, only the equipment requirements for head protection, hand protection and knee protection apply for learn to skate activities. Please see Red Book, Section D, rule D3-301, page 105.
Failure to wear any piece of required equipment at a warm-up, competition or meet shall result in a penalty which may include the skater not being permitted to compete.
Each skater and his or her parents/guardiansand coach are responsible for ensuring that the skater is wearing all required equipment during practices, events and competitions.
Thank you
