This position will perform the following work:

  • Monitor, maintain and support WSDOT workstations, operating systems, computer resources and mobile devices.
  • Independently install, maintain, and resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Provide training, advice and guidance to all levels of users.
  • Research current technology, conduct process review and write technical papers on findings.
  • Create installation plans, install and configure hardware/software.
  • Plan and lead large scale hardware and software development projects that have a region wide impact.
  • Work cooperatively with a diverse group of business customers and technical peers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

An ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • At least 4 years of prior work experience in a desktop support setting. College education may be substituted for years of experience.
  • Experience providing technical consulting and performing installation of IT hardware and software.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and standard Adobe products.
  • The ability to respond in the event of a regional emergency and assist with any technological support issues that may arise with computers, network connectivity and mobile devices.
  • The ability to lead, coach and mentor staff.
  • The ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.to a height of 3-4 feet for delivery or removal from customer areas.
  • The ability to communicate and collaborate, both orally and In writing with other departments and diverse teams within WSDOT, other agencies, supervisors, employees, and the public promptly and professionally.
  • The ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems.
  • The ability to independently respond to and adjust priorities as needed.
  • The ability to retrieve, understand and interpret electronic and printed material.
  • Knowledge and support experience of Avaya voice systems is preferred.
  • The ability to conduct training sessions for customers and support staff.
  • A valid driver’s licensewith the ability to travel across the state with possible overnight stays.
  • Support experience with server hardware, Microsoft Server operating systems and VMWARE.

Note:

This position is covered by a union shop provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to become members of the WFSE, or arrange to pay to that union a fee equivalent to its regular monthly dues. The union shop provision shall be effective on the first day of the month following the employee's initial 30 days in this classification.
