The Vacant Posts

  1. Teacher of Italian, French, German, Spanish

The College offers 10 week Language Courses and is seeking applicants that can offer one or more of the above languages. The courses follow the OCN ONE Awards and you would be required to teach primarily levels 1 or 2, although level 3 is also offered and might also be required.

  1. Teacher of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

The College offers 30-week ESOL courses at Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 again courses are certificated by ONE Award. Courses are currently offered during the day, 1.30-3.30 on Wednesdays for Entry Level, with Levels 1 & 2 being offered as evening classes on Monday and Thursday evenings, 6.30pm – 9.00pm.

As far as possible, evening provision is subject to the usual College administrative procedures and systems and evening students have access to all our facilities and services.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES

This job description is an extract from the professional duties of a classroom teacher as specified in the Teaching Staff Conditions of Service Handbook (Appendix 4) of the National Joint Council for Staff in Former Sixth Form Colleges and is an expectation of what a teacher employed at this College can be required to carry out.

Teaching

1.(a)planning and preparing courses and lessons

(b)teaching, according to their educational needs, the students assigned to you, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the student in college and elsewhere

(c)assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of students in each case having regard to the curriculum for the College.

Other activities

2.(a)promoting the general progress and well-being of individual students and of any class or group of students assigned to you

(b)providing guidance and advice to students on educational and social matters and on their further education and future careers, including information about sources of more expert advice on specific questions; making relevant records and reports

(c)co-operating with persons or bodies outside the college

(d)participating in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above

3.providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students

Salary and Conditions of Service

All appointments to Community Education posts are conditional upon the College receiving sufficient student enrolments. All posts are for a fixed-term period according to the length of each course. Depending on the level of the course, and the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, salary will be paid at an hourly rate based on the Sixth Form Colleges' Payspine for Teaching Staff, currently £19.71 - £22.42 per hour.

Salary and conditions of service are based on a model for teachers produced by the National Joint Council of the Sixth Form Colleges' Association

Courses begin week commencing Monday 11th or Monday 18thSeptember.
