Vacuum Excavator Driver/Operator

Reports To / Logistics First Line Manager

Location

/ South West (primarily Gloucester, Wiltshire, Somerset)

Purpose

To provide support and assistance to engineering teams by providing and operating the vacuum excavator in order to safely excavate and dispose of ground materials.

To work within Wales & West Utilities (WWU) Western Gas Alliance (WGA) policies, procedures and relevant legislation. Ensuring at all times that the works are being carried out safely and in accordance with work procedures and agreed timescales.

Key Accountabilities

Planning, Monitoring and Responding

·  Consider current and next phase of work and ensure that you are able to undertake it safely and efficiently

·  Ensure a flexible approach to ensure all requirements are met within agreed timescales

·  Wear the appropriate PPE and work wear at all times

·  Ensure that all daily/weekly vehicle inspections are undertaken and that all defects are reported and rectified within agreed timescales

·  Ensure that vehicle condition is looked after, and present vehicle for maintenance when requested

People

·  Maintain good, honest and robust communication with engineering staff at all times

·  Demonstrate successful team working practices across WWU and WGA

·  Attend safety briefings, training, consultation meetings and health surveillance as required

Workload Delivery

·  Operate the vacuum excavator in a safe and efficient manner

·  Ensure that your vehicle is maintained and any maintenance issues/defects are logged via the correct channels. Ensure weight of vehicle is checked no less than bi-monthly

·  Use approved equipment only, in the correct manner to ensure the safety and health of yourself and others

·  Support other Logistics roles as and when required

·  Report and / or record all accidents, incidents, environmental events (aspects and impacts), damages, near misses and illnesses, and co-operate with site inspections and investigations

·  Comply with the Health, Safety, Engineering & Environmental requirements relevant to your duties and responsibilities, and ensure the safety of yourself and others

·  Sign in on arrival at site

·  Always ensure that the team on site nominate a competent person to work with you at all times

·  Only use the manufacturer’s access points to enter parts of the machine to clear blockages etc., never enter a machine until it is fully isolated and safe to do so

·  A fall prevention harness must be worn and fixed before climbing onto the machine

·  Be proactive with signing and guarding when on site, never leave gaps in barriers and report any defects to the Team Leader or First Line Manager

Data Quality and Quality Assurance

·  Ensure all records/systems are accurately maintained

·  Ensure all documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner

·  Ensure all Management Information (MI) is issued in an accurate and timely manner

·  Ensure that Driver CPC cards, Driving Licence are available at all times

Performance Management

·  Ensure registered qualifications are up to date, and ensure that the annual review process is undertaken

·  Ensure quality of workmanship meets minimum standards

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

·  A good working knowledge of operational gas sites.

·  Minimum requirement Category C driving licence, preferable Category CE

·  Preferable NPORS Vacuum Excavator

·  Preferable NPORS clamshell bucket

·  Preferable NPORS slinger / signaller
