WASTE & RECYCLE BROCHURE SUBCOMMITTEE

(A subcommittee of the Ad Hoc Blight Committee, chaired by CM Denise Lee)

LOCATION: City Hall, 4th Floor, Conference Room - B

SCHEDULED TIME: 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM

TOPIC OF MEETING: Discuss the design and information

contained in the present “Resident’s

Guide to Solid Waste Collection and

Disposal” published by the City Of

Jacksonville / Dept. of Public Works,

Solid Waste Div., and decide what

revisions may be necessary to enhance

the document.

ATTENDEES: CM Jim Love, ECA Kevin Kuzel, CM John Cresimbeni, Robert Campbell, Robert Prado, Jeff Foster, Ed Obrero, Jim Robinson

MEETING START: 2:34 pm

CM Crescimbeni - Asked the attendees to introduce themselves - then stated the purpose of the meeting.

CM Crescimbeni - Asked the publication date of the document and distribution method…

Jim Robinson - Said that the publication date should be before the end of the fiscal year.

CM Crescimbeni - the document is divided up between automated and non-automated. We are going to be all automated by early 2016.

Jim Robinson - There is a desire to have this published as the annual document.

Crescimbeni - Does CM Love have any comments…?

CM Love - Said - This document should be online. Other attendees agreed.

Jim Robinson - Stated that the document could be placed online…

Jim Robinson - Some of the documents sent out are seasonal. Each page will have graphics added.

Crescimbeni - (in the document) wants to tighten up redundancy and repetition.

Crescimbeni - On Page 3 / “How you can help”, suggested – for “Report illegal dumping” – give contact information; and for Keep Jacksonville Beautiful – provide phone and contact information. On page 4 - suggested - keep map same size, eliminate the surrounding counties or change colors on map, spell out service company’s names, and delineate automated collection areas (these items were discussed by attendees)

Crescimbeni - On page 5, under “Common Standards of Service” – suggested changing the way the collection time is stated; also stated that number of feet (three feet) that receptacles and materials are placed from vehicles should be added;

Ed Obrero - Stated - the “3 feet” is for the mechanical arm for automated collection.

Crescimbeni - Suggested: Change heading to “Collection Schedules” (page 5)

Crescimbeni - Suggested: minor changes on Page 6.

CM Love & CM Crescimbeni – Page 6 - Suggested adding “630City” (for contact) to “Collection of all bulk items…”

Attendees discussed pages 7 through 12, with an emphasis on making the rules for waste and recycling collection more understandable with more technical information (and contact info) to provide citizens with a document giving a proper explanation of services and requirements.
