Service Description
Intensive Home Treatment Team
The Intensive Home Based Treatment Team provides a needs led service to adults from the age of 18 and above who are experiencing an acute mental crisis where there are significant risks to themselves and/ or others. The service operates 24hrs a day 7 days a week.
Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
Melton Suite Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit is a 6 bedded locked door unit that provides intensive nursing for both male and female patients who are compulsory detained and are in an acute disturbed phase of their mental disorder. Before any patient is admitted to PICU a comprehensive assessment will be completed to ensure that the admission is appropriate to the individual’s needs.
The primary aim of Melton Suite (PICU) is to pro-actively support the safe resolution of Crisis, enabling individuals to return to an acute admissions or other inpatient ward through the assessment and intensive care for service users requiring a high level of nursing interventions.
Section 136 Suite

Mental Health Liaison Team
The Hospital Liaison service will provide mental health and psychiatric assessments to patients of the Accident and Emergency Department, wards and departments of the Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. By having an integrative approach combining the responsibilities of each speciality and patients mental health needs will be given the same priority as their physical needs.
Beamshaw & Clarke Ward

Clark ward is a 14 bedded female acute inpatient unit with controlled access and egress.
The nursing teams provide a bio/psycho/social assessment for both informal service users and service users detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 who are experiencing an acute mental crisis where there are significant risks to themselves and/ or others. Care plans are formulated in collaboration with services to meet their individual risks and needs.
The wards aim to create and maintain a safe, supportive and therapeutic, recovery focused environment in which to support the physical, emotional and mental well being of all service users during the episode of mental ill health.
Willow Ward
The Functional Assessment Unit is based on a philosophy of assessment, treatment and recovery. The aim of the service is to promote wellbeing and independence of people with mental health problems, optimising their functioning. The ward will provide a high quality needs led care within the Recovery Model.

The team has a dedicated Occupational Therapist that works as part of the in-patient team.
The team will work in partnership with other agencies in order to ensure that the service user inpatient episode and transition back to community services is a seamless pathway that is in full collaboration with the service user and their family, where appropriate.
The ward adopts a model of recovery and well being focused approach to care delivery. We aim to support people to fulfil their potential by:
